Description

the core has struggled to get past the second round.
2019: Lost to Sharks in Second Round
2020: Lost to Stars in Second Round (major injuries)
2021: Lost to Knights in Second Round
They blew it in 2021. Yes the D core was young and inexperienced, but at times in the Knights series it looked like they had given up or were overconfident. I honestly have no idea what will happen to EJ. He only played 4 games and was the only vet on the D core before Ryan Murray was signed. Honestly the goaltending is questionable. Kuemper had a down year and was injured a lot and Francouz didn't play at all this past season. If the goaltending was average or slightly below average, the offence could bail them out, but if the goaltending is bottom 7 I don't think the offence would be able to bail them out. Honestly they are one of the teams that have tremendous pressure to win the cup with the first time with their core along the likes of Vegas and Toronto. Another exit in the second round I think we can definitely call them the new Capitals.

Their window is definitely not closing, but fans are probably expecting improvement in the playoffs. They are just stalling in the second round.

Its not like they lost to a scrub team in the Knights, they were 1A and 1B in what would have been the true West conference last year.
Avs stars were not their best, goaltending was suspect, and yet they blew 2 3rd period leads with less than 10mins to go. Not going to over react tryign to put labels on them as "the new caps"

Any other year, avs would have been facing the knights in the conf finals.

Go look at what Tampa did the 7 seasons prior to winning BTB Cups. It takes time to build a Cup-winning roster and the Avs' window just opened up last season. They weren't expected to get out of the first round three seasons ago; the injuries tore them down two seasons ago and the Knights weren't a pushover last season. If they haven't made any progress in 2-3 season, maybe they could legitimately be accused of being the "new Caps" or whatever but, until then, slow your roll.
