Buffalo gets a guy projecting as a future 2C a likely middle pairing RHD and a 1st round pick.
    LAK
LAK get top line centre without giving up Byfield. Not sure how much sense it makes after the Danault signing though.

Don’t think Eichel to kings makes sense. They have two top 6 centers already and kings will need cap space for some of their scoring ELC guys in next couple of years.

Also don’t think that’s enough of a return for eichel. He probably won’t get moved until later in the season or next offseason once he ultimately gets surgery and is showcased that he’s healthy.

So we finally got our superstar defensive prospect we needed for so long, just to trade him for a player we neither need, nor can afford.

For who? If its Ideal, why are the Sabres adding a d prospect they dont need, when they have 12 forward spots to fill

Yes. I mentioned that in the trade comments. I don't think he goes to the Kings but this would be an ideal package for the Sabres.

I think that's absolutely enough for Eichel. I agree with everything else you said though.

Superstar defensive prospect? That's a bit far. This year was a weak draft and he was the 4th defenceman to go in the draft despite having the added value of being a right shot.

Assuming a healthy Eichel I would expect the price to be driven up. Current state Eichel, yes I think that would be enough from a pure value standpoint.

Actually I don't the Sabres won't get anymore from any team if the goal is get minimal cap back for Eichel. In effect three first rounders.
The Kings aren't ready for serious contention this year. So they keep those young assets. Next season Vilardi on the team, maybe Brandt then the Kings have a whole lotta cap space without Eichel to sign a very good UFA.
That's the Sabres competition in any trade for Eichel. Teams are thinking, I'm not giving up anything good young prospects who make minimal salary, when I can keep those players and then use that cap space by not having Eichel for other players.

I wouldn't put much stock in that "4th defenceman to go" nonsense. William Nylander was the fourth winger to go in 2014 after Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett and Jake Virtanen (two of whom were right shots).

You forget Draisaitl was in that draft?

He plays center most of the time, and was drafted as a center. That's why I was careful to use the word "winger" instead of "forward."

Inasmuch as Draisaitl has played all of his NHL seasons but one in our division, I'm pretty well aware of him. He's always been a greater threat in games against the Kings or Ducks than McDavid, for some reason, and the Oilers always play him at center until they're behind, when they put the two of them together.
