Maxime Comtois a signé un contrat de 2 ans d'une valeur de 4 075 000 $ avec les Ducks d'Anaheim, le 9 août 2021. Le contrat comporte un cap hit de 2 037 500 $.
Excellent signing.
The dollar-figure respects a flat-Cap world even though Ducks still have plenty of space.
Kid got a healthy raise and he didn't hold the club hostage...win-win!

Excellent deal. Cheaper than I expected. He succeeded being the big kid in the small pond. Now it's time to see if he can take his game to the next level with a better supporting cast.
Side note: when players with good upside agree in the 2ish range for 2 years I always wonder if that's a missed opportunity to get them to sign for 4ish for term.
Big market teams should learn a thing or two. Leafs/NYR would've paid double on a bridge.
I don't know about New York but in Canada, specifically in Toronto, taxes are quite high and so the Leafs have to pay more for a player than other NHL cities.
Would like to have players on team friendly deals like this one but not always possible depending on the team/city.

Teams in FLA and other states definitely have a huge advantage and their players pay more than 10% less in taxes, but California's tax rate is very similar to that of TOR. According to this site, Marner will pay about 54% of his salary in taxes next season while Max Comtois will pay 53.9%, almost identical. I've always felt that TOR and EDM overpay their free agents at an unnecessary rate that far exceeds the gap between different states/provinces. This is especially true with RFA's when the players have much less leverage to negotiate with other teams. If Comtois played for the Leafs, he would've been paid much more despite similar taxes. Just look at the pattern: Marner, Kapanen, Johnsson, etc...over the last few years.
