While I see the value, I just don't get it from anaheims point of view. They're just to far from competing to give up this many pieces for one guy. No matter how good he is

They'd have Eichel for 5 years though. Having a Eichel Zegras McTavish center core for the next 4 years would be great.

I know it would suck parting with Drysdale/Comtois though.

But the rest of the team is just not ready to compete. They're not at a point where I think they can trade that much future. LA is. Anaheim would make a trade like this in 2 years

Well yeah, that's why I said they would have him for 5 years. It's not like he's a FA next year.

Anaheim probably won't get another opportunity to get a player like Eichel in a trade.

Anaheim isn’t moving Drysdale or Zegras. Buffalo isn’t going to get the price they want. And this is definitely not favorable for Anaheim.

Absolutely not. Why should we change places with Buffalo? They're crummy and have little hope of getting better with their current roster and prospect pool. We're currently almost as crummy, but we've already started assembling the roster (Comtois, Tracey, Lundestrom, Zegras, McTavish, Perreault, Colangelo, Drysdale, etc.) that will be very good in the not-too-distant future.

Having "Eichel for five years though" is meaningless because the first two years we wouldn't be anywhere close to a playoff spot having given up these prime young players (incl the 2022 first-round draft pick) and there's no assurance we'd be better off in years 3-5 with players chosen in later drafts.

Having Eichel for five years is meaningless? Lol ok. Ducks are in a crappy division. You'd probably be contending for a spot with him immediately.

Haven't you noticed? The Ducks suck. And if they were to give up this much they would become West coast Buffalo. With Eichel they would probably be better than San Jose but that's about it. There would be no good LW on the team and RD would suck for years to come.

Ducks decline.

How do you not understand what 5 years mean? Why do you think you have to be contending for the cup right away?

You're giving up Drysdale, Comtois, and probably a pick around 8-16. You could even have it protected top 8. Getting Eichel while keeping Zegras/McTavish would be a huge win.

Think you're overrating what you're giving up a bit.

The pick will likely be a Top 5 pick, especially after this deal.

Who's gonna play on Eichel's LW? Who's gonna play on Zegras LW? There is no one who could fill either role. Who's gonna play RD in 2-3 years? Shattenkirk and Manson?
We saw what happens when you have a star player but the team around him sucks the last 6 seasons in Buffalo. And Eichel at least had someone like Reinhart on his line. Eichel would likely play with Rakell on RW and someone like Jones on LW. This deal would leave no above average / good LW on the roster. The Ducks would still suck. They aren't an Eichel away from Playoff contention even in the division they're in. Vegas, Edmonton, L.A., Vancouver would still all be better, maybe Calgary and Seattle as well idk.

The only one of the Top 3 prospects the Ducks would give up is McTavish. Drysdale and Zegras aren't going anywhere. And it's unlikely Comtois is being traded as well because they changed his number to his "real" number a couple of days ago. It would be a stupid move either way. The Ducks are better off without Eichel.

Eichel plus Reinhart plus Dahlin plus Ristolainen = dead last

Eichel minus Comtois minus Drysdale minus Henrique = bottom five

No, attempting to resemble the hapless Sabres isn't a "huge win."

Both the Sabres and Ducks are in the same position. They have lost often lately, and need to tool their rosters to compete.
