I think Rielly has a case to be getting 9M considering what Jones and Nurse got; which I wouldn't give him. I think now is the time to trade Rielly looking at what other D men have been getting on the market.

Knowing Dubas though, he'll use him as a self-rental and then Rielly will walk for nothing in the offseason.

i think you will see a lot of Dman be moved soon to avoid paying them that much. Im thinking Rielly and Klingberg

I imagine that’s true. I don’t think Dubas will make the same mistake again and let a good player go for nothing (although I do believe he did the right thing with Hyman).

He looked at moving Tyson Barrie and Jake Gardiner as well but his asking prices were super high (1st and a prospect)

Leafs are just going to worry about this season. If by lineup by signing Reilly, some other spots get weakened by the money paid to Reilly. Just let Reilly go next summer and just spend that cap space wisely.

Only problem with that train of thought is how many trade options are out there in which moving Reilly makes the Leafs a better team for the playoffs this year?

This is why Dubas needed to have figured out what he was going to do with Rielly before the NHL draft.

Now teams have spent their money and it's just not as easy to move Rielly while somehow adding a D who would help during the season/playoffs.

I'll agree with you if that trade scenario came up. But most TDL trades are trading a good veteran in this case Reilly for futures. Contending teams want to upgrade, so the they don't usually immediate trade value but they trade their futures.
