I think you're right, I was just guessing as to what he would be offered. looking at what Poolman got - who I rate similarly to Juolevi - I thought that would be a fair estimate until we know exactly what he'll be given.

No shouldn’t get anything more than bud qualifying offer. He’s played like 20 NHL games and hasn’t done anything in those games. He has no future in Vancouver and should be traded

I hear ya with the limited games. However, he was definitely not out of place on the roster last year & In his 273 minutes of even-strength play last season, he has been on the ice for nine goals against. Juolevi ranked best on the Canucks with a team-low 1.98 goals-against per 60 minutes. He also possessed a positive control of the goal share as he’s been on the ice for 11 goals scored.

Maybe 2.5 mil is high, definitely. I will probably edit that down to 1.5 or 1.25. But to say that he doesn't have a slot on our roster doesn't really add up. He's shown that he can play NHL minutes, even if they are sheltered, and still perform decently. I thought in the bubble playoffs last year as well he didn't look out of place either for the one game he played.

I think to give up on a player we drafted so high, with him just starting to get a taste in the NHL, would be a misstep from Benning. I'd like to see how he plays this season on a 'Prove it' deal before any thought about trading him comes to mind.

He will land somewhere between 875k-975k. He is also close to number 9 on the depth chart for Dmen now. Behind Rathbone and Hunt for sure and probably behind Schenn too.

The problem is our left side is a log jam. We have Rathbone knocking on the door as the third pairing left side d man. He put up a good show in his short cameo last season and I think people would rather see an exciting young prospect with a very lot of offensive talent than a guy who really doesn’t do much on the ice. Juolevi isn’t bad by any means but he just is the odd man out. Going forward, there’s no way that Juolevi gets a roster spot over Rathbone and that’s just the reality for him.

That'd be a nice ballpark for him, I'd be thrilled if we sign him for that.

Training camp is going to be a dogfight for the 6th spot on d. Time will tell who comes into camp playing their best.

Very true, Rathbone looked great & I've heard Garland and him are close... 3rd pairing needs defence above all else so we'll see what direction Green wants to go in. Going to be an interesting camp this year, haven't been this curious about it since Pettersson's first one.

Tbh, if he gets closer to the 975k range its too much. He knows he is on the fringes and if he wants to force VAN to keep him up with the big team, he is going to need to have a lower cap hit to justify that. Once EP, QH, and JD are signed, VAN is going to be right up against the cap before they can place Ferland on LTIR. If Juolevi's cap hit is too high and doesn't earn his spot there is no incentive for VAN to have his cap hit count against their cap unless is closer to Hunt's/Schenn's. Also in response to your other message, Juolevi had the most sheltered minutes of any dman and played very few of them. His gap control and puck distribution are pretty solid but thats it man. He is noticeably a step behind when defending, takes too long to make a play and has suspect defensive awareness. If he doesn't improve his skating, he won't make it in the show.

I see your point, we'll have to see if he improves & if not I guess they'll have to move on from him. I'm holding out hope; I think he could make the next step & build upon his season

I see this as a good problem for the Canucks; lots of options for 1 spot in the roster.. will be a case of the best man wins.

Canucks need to perform better in their own end before we can even think about competing for a playoff spot. I don't recall watching a game in the past few years where the Nucks have led in the shots department over teams in the top half of the league.
