Quoting: villenash
I'd rather have a highly-touted prospect in Brannstrom than a late 1st.
But also Duchene was only in CBJ for one playoff run -- so there is precedent (both ways).
The Duchene to Columbus trade is a much better comparable.
It was:
Duchene (considered a mid-to-low-end 1C)
Julius Bergman, D prospect
for
Late 1st
Vitaly Abramov (B prospect)
Jonathan Davidsson (B- prospect)
Conditional 1st if he resigns.
The last part, the conditional 1st, is no longer allowed under the new CBA, so that we can ignore.
Abramov and Bowers are comparable. Davidsson for Bergman is a wash.
Bear in mind that Duchene is a Center whereas Forsberg is a winger, and centers typically cost a premium on top of wingers. A 1st + B prospect deal at the deadline is not far off fair value - though of course in any trade situation the price will be heavily influenced by how many interested parties there are and how many other comparable players are on the market as well.
