What are yours thoughts on Samorukov? Is he NHL ready? If so, would he get ice time over Lagesson or Russell?

Samorukov definitely up'd his game in the KHL. I could definitely see him coming in an getting some NHL games. If he can out play Lagesson then he would stick around. Im hoping Oilers are open to that.
Is Samorukov going to be playing in North America this year or KHL?

Apparently Sammy is training in Edm right now and is looking like a beast, according to a comment I read a few weeks ago. He, along with Holloway and Benson are massive potential difference makers next season. If that happens, this team could go supernova, if the goaltending gets sorted out.

Also don't count out Konovalov or Broberg. It will be the most interesting season since Pronger was in town.

I think you are a little low on Yamo, I think he'll be in the neighbourhood of $1,7 million AAV.

So what is a long playoff run, the 2nd round, because they aren’t beating VGK in the 2nd rd?

Hoping to stretch it to 5 games this year.

Final piece? tears of joy

Anyway, the trade is terrible.

- Georgiev is a downgrade on Koskinen
- you didn't even save any money in the deal
- you gave up assets to do it

That's called a lose-lose-lose deal. The three main points (performance, cap and prospects) all took it in the pants.

How do you see that? Koskinen is horrible (i.e., 0/4 on 4 shots vs. Vancouver in 2021). He is much older than Georgeiv and on the wrong side of his career peak. He is an overpaid backup. Georgiev is younger locked for two years on a good contract and hasnt hit his ceiling yet. To move out Koskinen means a loss to the Oilers any way you slice it. The Oilers are needing to start winning more playoff games now and with Smith and Koskinen that isn't happening, Georgeiv gives them a better shot.

I get the money piece....so retain less, only 1mil.

Georgiev has a good contract?? Somebody forgot to tell the Rangers! The only reason they're moving him is cap space - they know they can get replacement level goaltending for $750k and save money.

Over the past 2 years, Koskinen posted a .910 save percentage to Georgiev's .908. And Koskinen's mark was dragged down by the beginning of 20-21 when Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant the that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule - 12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones - which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.

If you pull those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances, his save percentage over the past two seasons is .916, well above Georgiev's .908.

And before you blame NYR's defense, know that Koskinen faced 32.60 shots/60 to Georgiev's 31.99 SA/60 in all situations, and 32.34 SA/60 vs Georgiev's 31.03 at 5v5. Its not quality of shots either, as Koskinen has faced 8.50 HDSA/60 while Georgiev has faced 7.46.

So while Georgiev has some upside due to being just 25, in the short term I see this trade as a downgrade for Edmonton.

Your ignorance knows no bounds! Georgiev has played exactly zero NHL or AHL playoff games, the only professional playoff experience he has in his career is 81 minutes (over 3 games) in Finland, where he posted terrible numbers: 3.70 GAA and .857 sv%.
