With the Atlantic division being so tough next year, I don't think this is a playoff team

We got better offensively but worse defensively...

with DD new system, we will have to wait and see if that offensive shift will pay out.

They are easily worse rn, They need another C and a strong 3rd pair PM, RHD to slot in and then they might be even with last year. Danault was a major loss to this team. Weber can be saved but not many options for Danaults spot

lateral, hoffman replaces tatar, production should be similar, MTL defense is just as slow and unmobile as last year, MTL is not a playoff team baring a collapse from boston,leafs,panthers, tampa or one of the metro teams

I think the forward core is probably a bit better by adding Hoffman and with Caufield and Suzuki gaining experience but they still haven't addressed their weakness at centre after losing Danault.

The defense is a bit worse without Weber.

I put worse, but I was torn between that and "same".

The team has 4 solid lines, a decent d-group, and if they can get even slightly above average goaltending from Price (Who has been below league average in each of the past two regular seasons), they'll be a solid team.

I'd just question how it'll translate in a very top heavy division. IMO, Tampa and Florida are locks for a playoff spot, leaving the 3rd spot to one of Toronto, Boston, or Montreal. I'd peg Toronto as the better of the 3 regular season-wise mainly because of the question mark in net for Boston, and their lack of a 2C, which could potentially leave the Habs fighting for a wildcard spot with Boston, and a bunch of really solid teams in the Metro division.

Every game is definitely going to count.

MTL has petry, savard and romanov at RHD , they dont need RHD, but since MTL hates young mobile dmen, trade Romanov for a pilon....

My only concern is the centre position. I like the Savard add, but they don't have any puck moving defensemen

They need someone to be PMD for the Right side, someone like Vatanen who's a UFA wouldn't be terrible or trade a pick and a b prospect to NJ for PK 50% Retained

Edmundson Petry
Romanov Savard
Chiarot Any RH PMD @2Mil AVV or Less

Tatar->Hoffman
Weber->Savard
Staal->Paquette
Perry->Perreault
Gustafsson->Wideman

Minus Danault
Minus Merrill
Plus Drouin

~3m left for either 2/3c or puck moving D (or both, but 24/23 roster unless Coco or Romanov sent down, or a waiver)

If we had a FA like Bozak-C or Demers-RD maybe Habs are the same, but right now they're worse in a better division

Worse, we still haven’t replaced Danault, without replacing him, we cannot be a better team
