in what surreal world does that package get value (with retention). Ducks laugh -pitiful trade attempt, leafs are stuck with their pile of poop.

Manson sucks. Keep him and think about how you traded a 1st so Vegas would take Theodore.

That isnt what happened at all tears of joy

We traded Theodore (a prospect at the time) so they would take Clayton Stoner (Brutal contract) over Manson or Vatanen since Bieksa wouldn't waive his NMC

We we're also coming off of a conference final appearance so keeping the core together at that time was the right decision to make.

Keep your pile of scrap players no one wants and have fun with a first round exit again smile

(Please note: This is not meant to be argumentative-Just here for a good chat)

Now now boys, let's not forget the haul for one year of Rasmus f*cking Ristolainen tears of joy. Plus, Theodore was traded so that Vegas would take Clayton Stoner as a cap dump. Obviously a double bogey by GMBM, since they had Mahura and Larsson ahead of him on the depth chart for some reason, and wanted to keep all of Hampus, Fowler, Manson and Vatanen. Little did they know that the team was going to absolutely fall apart soon thereafter. Considering they had just won the Pacific division, and had bowed out in the Western Conference Final in 6 games, throwing a good prospect (Or pick) to clear some cap space was something that 100% of teams would have done. They *were* easily one of the top 4 teams in the NHL at the time. Also, there wasn't a 1st rounder included though, so let's just chill with that.

Regardless of our views on Manson, I think it's fair to say that 3 guys that the Leafs can't (Or Leafs fans don't want to make) fit, plus a 3rd rounder, isn't anything worth listnening to for the Ducks. Far more valuable to let Manson ride out the season eating up the tough minutes to ease Drysdale in.

Cheers fellas!

Good timing tears of joy

Every GM in the league would have done a similar move to clear cap space. The fact that they finished 2nd in the Pacific the following season showed that it was the right move at the time. Hampus, Fowler, Manson, Montour, Vatanen, Beauchemin and Bieksa were all part of the D core, and there wasn't really many other ways to swing it.

The downfall was inevitable at some point, it just happened quicker and harder than anyone thought it would.

People just see that we "gave" them Theodore and dont actually think about the context and state of the team at the time.

We can absolutely go back to the many great trades by other GM's in the league.
-Toronto gAvE aWaY Dougie Hamilton and Tyler Seguin for Phil Kessel, and he played a total of 7 games for them.
-Florida gAvE aWaY Rielly Smith to get Vegas to take Marchy.
-Tuch to take Haula?
-f**king Karlsson, a 1st and a 2nd to take Clarkson tears of joy
-TUUUUUKAAAAA for Raycroft anyone?

Easy to pick on one bad trade, but there's plenty around.

Honestly Rielly isn’t worth a first rounder not saying he has no value but firsts are just way to valuable to trade (well unless your a playoff team)

Theodore was better at that time than Manson. It was a ridiculously bad move.
