CGY needs Mangiapane for the next 5 years at an AAV around $5M much more than Rielly on an expiring contract that looks set to be $8M+ going forward based on the new market for Dmen.

Doubt Rielly signs for $8M, not really in the same conversation as guys that have signed recently but he'd definitely be overpaid. I just think there's a chance that Treliving makes the deal due to a potential Gaudreau re-signing and a stacked W group

Mangiapane is still growing his game and getting better every year. CGY needs to add a 1C (and replace Monahan in the process), and then add another 3rd pair LD. They aren’t in the market for a 1LD with no term and a looming salary hike.

The salary "hike" would likely be less than the increase from Manges current deal to his next. Based on Calgary's offseason they are going to continue pushing for playoffs meaning that a rental of a 1D is still valuable to them. I just think the hole left by Gio will be bigger than what most of you think

The Gio hole starting showing up this past season. Yes, CGY is currently asking Hanifin and Valimaki to take up a big chunk of that loss, and that’s not enough to fill it. But signing or trading for a bottom 4LD and keeping Mangiapane is a much smarter move for the team both on the ice and from an asset management standpoint.

I’m expecting Mangiapane to start pushing 30G pretty soon. Especially if he’s playing with Lindholm and Coleman. The kid is very, very good. And that’s why CGY isn’t thinking of moving him anytime soon.

I never understand the logic of these trades....obviously you trade Reilly because he an upcoming UFA. By the same logic, why do the Flames want an upcoming UFA? (actually you have traded two to Calgary, Mikheyev and Reilly)

No it simply wont happen at all, Calgary management is extremely high on Mangiapane and we already acquired a top 4 LD so there is no need for Rielly at all, especially considering Hanifin was better than him by the end of last year
