3 strong lines

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Top line:
Tatar- Great 5v5 possession winger to give McDavid more sustained attacks
McDavid- Yup. Let's see what he does with a real line
Hyman- Intense forechecker and will go to the dirty areas for McDavid

2nd line:
Foegele- Big fast Forechecker lacks a bit of finish but is better 5v5 performer then RNH
Draisaitl- Real 1-2 punch after McDavid gets a true line allows Drai line easier match ups
Yamamoto- Sophmore slump was bad if he doesn't regain some of his finish JP could steal this spot.

3rd line:
Nuge- Had rough year 5v5 sliding him down to 3rd line allows easier match ups for him while still being key player on special teams.
McLeod- Although not producing in short stint last year showed a lot of promise as young #3C
JP- Showed he was a NHL player last year but had a few Hockey IQ lapses. Sliding him down to 3rd line is spreading the wealth.

4th line-
Archibald- Feisty for a small guy aggressive forecheck and hits hopefully get line mate Kassian on the same page.
Ryan- Great defensive and faceoff RH center allows the energy line to get possession and go to work.
Kassian- Needs a bounce back season or Benson/Marody can steal his spot when his fists aren't needed.

Team will be very reliant on its forward group to maintain possession making the games easier for their questionable defensive group.

I think Ryan should be 3C for a while. McLeod can learn from him a lot and carry that to the next season where he will earn the 3C spot.

EDM will continue to fail until they run the three headed monster lines like this. I've no idea why Mc"Jesus" can't figure out how to play without Drysaddle and other top players on his line. He handcuffs his team not only by his cap hit, but by crippling their depth. They should've been running 3 separate lines for the last few years

Whichever Ryan plays #3C doesn't change that this would be the best top 9 for the Oilers in recent memory

They’ve had AHL players playing on second line last couple years. Nuge couldn’t figure out how to play with mcdavid and there was literally nobody else.

I totally agree with you. Even in the past when we haven't had the depth at the forward position, you still need to spread the skill out a bit.
I thought the Oilers could have tried Turris on either McDavids or draisaitls wing last year. He's a righty that still has a very good shot and has a way better one-timer than nuge. For some reason they wanted him to be a shutdown 3rd line center, which he's never been good at. I still think Turris has more offense in him than we've seen.
Nuge and puljujarvi play good together and either McLeod or Ryan would be fine with them.
There is some skill, size and hustle on every line which will lead to better depth scoring.

I also think they need to consider going to 2 pp units as well (Giving the 2nd unit the last 20 seconds doesn't count). They have 4 dmen who can play pp now. It should cut down on the short handed chances against, and keeps more people involved in the scoring.

Why do Oilers fans hate Koskinen so much?

At the beginning of this past season Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant the that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule (12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones) which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.

With that in mind, I took a look at his last 2 seasons combined, but I pulled those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances: his save percentage was .916, which is better than Smith's .912 and only a hair below Khudobin's .918 (who was playing behind a much better defense).

Even if you include those January games Koskinen still posted a .910 over the past 2 years. He's not chopped liver.

Looking at 5v5 stats for the past 2 years this is very apparent: Koskinen faced 32.34 shots/60 when Khudobin faced just 27.51 - that's nearly 5 more shots per hour. For perspective, if you look at the top-31 goalies by TOI and rank them by SA/60, Khudobin is 3rd in the league with Koskinen is 31st. He's had the hardest row to *** of any starter.

Likewise if you look at high danger shots: Koskinen has faced 8.50 HDSA/60 over the past 2 seasons (26th of 31 goalies to play at least 2650 minutes), Khudobin just 6.38 (3rd of 31).

The numbers are here.

I don't know how Khudobin would fare playing behind Edmonton's defense, but there's certainly no guarantee he'd be better. I'd ride out the last year of Koskinen's deal and see what comes to market next summer.

I don't hate Koskinen (even though his 4.5x3 should have been 3.5x3 when signed) but when insiders are saying OIlers are looking to move on it will influence the ACGMs. The 2 game rotation from 19-20 worked pretty well for the Oilers goalies was surprised they went away from it in 20-21.

Its your AGM though, and your valuation of the player. You can't put that on "insiders".
