This guy from hockeyprospecting.com should know that a goalie's prospects of performing like a NHL goalie are sometimes a real crapshoot.

Instead of sitting behind his computer in his mom's basement crunching numbers that don't mean anything, he should consider actually watching these goalies play over a lengthy period of time.

Better yet, stop scamming people out of their hard-earned salaries by charging $25 per year on his website.

Using his logic, Adin Hill is still considered a prospect at the age of 25 and is worth more than a 2nd round pick + another goalie prospect.

Grifter! :/

Wow, that guy is just plain nuts. He has San Jose (!!!) ahead of the Rangers in prospect strength. And Toronto 4th??? WOOF.

his models are strictly data based so i would be interested to see which date he uses to see how he has them ranked 26th, feels like we have 3 guys with legitimate NHL starter potential but analytical usage for prospects is questionable anyways tbh

His models are bad. The sabres goalie prospect are ranked 30th. With UPL, Levi and Portillo.

I'll get back to you on that in the coming days.

Based on your line of questioning, you seem to be defending him.

I've never even heard of the guy before. He probably hasn't even seen 90% of the goalie prospects play.

No, I haven’t seen the list. I’m just curious as I’m not very familiar with other teams prospect pools.

Here's the list.

He has a thread on it.

I think think Analytics are a very useful tool in evaluating players, but they aren't very useful in evaluating prospects (most models weigh points as the be all end all due to lack of data tracking in most leagues) and they are outright useless in evaluating goalie prospects. I wouldn't spend to much time thinking about it tbh.

Not at all. When it comes to the NHL, I think advanced analytics are undeniably useful in evaluating a player's impact. I just think that In just about every other relevant hockey league in the world, they're just harder to rely on because data tracking just isn't remotely as comprehensive and what data is there isn't always widely available. Also, in the context of prospects, a lot of those models, including Bader's model specifically, don't do a good job of accounting for the way players are used especially regarding young players in top Euro leagues.

"O. Wahlstrom vs. B. Tkachuk - OW has a 73% chance of making the NHL and 27% chance of being a star. BT has a 58% chance of making the NHL and 9% chance of being a star."

He also said we should have drafted Perfetti or Rossi instead of Stutzle

He also had Olli Maatta having the same star probability as Erik Karlsson through their draft year to D+4 year.

As you can see above, his takes can be really flawed and even downright ridiculous

I once said about him "Trying to make an exact science out of something that is more an art than anything is a bit foolish."

============================================================================================

Anyway, I have made a series of polls on the subject on an another popular hockey forum. Here's the goalie prospects ranking (less than 45 GP, less than 25 y/o)

#1- Spencer Knight
#2- Yaroslav Askarov
#3- Jake Oettinger
#4- Jeremy Swayman
#5- Kaapo Kähkönen
#6- Lukáš Dostál
#7- Filip Gustavsson
#8- Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
#9- Cayden Primeau
#10- Michael DiPietro
#11- Dustin Wolf
#12- Mads Søgaard
#13- Joey Daccord
#14- Justus Annunen
#15- Daniel Vladar

Daccord is now gone but Merilainen is probably going to rise very fast in these rankings

Please show me a team that has a better overall top-3 than Gustavsson/Sogaard/Merilainen. If it's not #1, it should be very close

Once again, Bader is out to lunch
