That Eichel proposal was based off a Larry Brooks article. Since it seemed like he was just conjuring ideas in his head,, I'm not really giving much thought to it.
If Eichel isn't healthy (or it's perceived he won't ever be fully healthy again), then that's the only true determining factor. A compromised 1C ruins any trade.
We get an injured Eichel for a lesser package and the full Cap hit, that's an empty $10M over the next 5 years eating our Overall Cap. It's a Giancarlo Stanton trade. Regardless of getting him for nothing, the money hurts us.
We get him for only $5M in the proposal above, we get to keep Zibenejad. But our C depth behind him would still be weak, and we'd have given away pieces like Kakko and Robertson for nothing.
If Eichel can be salvaged into the 1C we are expecting, then fine, pull off the trade. But if he can't, there is no combination of package or retention that will keep it from being a horrendous trade.
