Ugh what if they demand Mangiapane

Description
Eichel is the better player, but man I would HATE to give up Mang in any deal at this point.

A key reason being that I think CGY could have Mang on the books for another 5 years for around $5M with increasing production each year from him. High ceiling.

In this comparison, I’m basically considering Mangiapane equal in value to Dube + Zary + 2022 2nd. Is that enough?

That said, here’s is a comparison of two trades: one includes Mangiapane, the other doesn’t.

In both of the above trades, I think it makes great sense for BUF to trade Monahan to a 3rd team for futures. Might be necessary if Monahan has BUF on his no-fly list (likely). BUF can get more value retaining salary for 2 years on him, which increases the value received.

They want an all prospect return anyways. They might want Dube though because he’s still really young.

Monahan flip to CLB for 2022 1st (CHI) + prospect(s) would be OK for BUF, no?

If the net return was 2 firsts next year, plus dube and zary, i would think the sabres do that all day long. Im not sure if the flames should- not talking you out of it mind you. I imagine there are places jack would be fine with playing out his contract, i dont know that calgary is one of them, and if youre keeping up, his agent is making things difficult here. I believe the neck issue has been politicized. Frankly its getting weird here- the agent is basically sabotaging his clients value, which makes it harder to trade him, unless he counts on the team and gm folding, which, sabres fans are hoping the front office doesnt do. If thats the return im in, just buyer beware.

I think the agents smartly issued the statement in response to Adams saying, “we have leverage, there is no pressure to move him”. The statement proves there actually is some pressure. And if Adams continues to renege on their handshake deal to trade Eichel by the draft, it probably continues down this nasty road.

Its curious that you call it a handshake deal. Im sure there was an understanding that if their price was met, that they would move him, but thats no kind of promise. All the sabres lose is leverage if they bow to any pressure that fish, the media, or the other gms wanna put on him.

Handshake deal / verbal agreement = same same

I’m just going off what the agents claim in their recent press release. This whole Eichel situation with BUF sounds like a lot of verbal communication and understanding (and trust) failed at multiple stages along the road. And that’s not reparable for your best player and captain, especially after the team traded his best buddy Reinhart for arguably less than “fair market value”.

Would be really, really frustrating to be in Eichel’s shoes right now. I haven’t read into CBA rules around breaking his contract, but if it’s not overly punitive to the player, there is no shortage of teams ready to sign him for $11M AAV if that contract was broken. Again, I don’t know the rules here, just another “what if” scenario for this ugly breakup.

Was trying to figure this out today, i think you are absolutely right. Theres no way the sabres sever his contract, im guessing the only thing holding this up is payment of the surgery?
