Tyler Bertuzzi has signed a new contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

Slight overpayment for sure, hopefully he just has a godly season next year, but then again Wings have the money to spend so I guess it doesn’t really matter

Good contract but I think they should have tried to get more term.

A little high, but I think he was getting that good last season before the injury. Plus he is getting close to being a face of the organization. good to have him back

This will and should increase the Bertuzzi to leafs AGM's.

Bertuzzi just made himself a UFA in 2 years, which means probably won't re-sign in Detroit, which means Steve should be looking to trade him.

And with a short term contract signed + plenty of short term cap-space in Detroit .... 50% cap retention is now a real possibility.

And cap retention is something the Leafs might be willing to overpay for.

Maybe Bracco + 6th round pick gets it done?

Yzerman was so tired of TML homers trading for Bertuzzi and sending sh.t, he just gave him more for the sake of peace on CapFriendly......

Curious what Detroit fans would rank between Buchnevich, Shaw, and Bertuzzi.

I'm pretty surprised. I really thought that Bertuzzi would be traded. It seems like no team offered what Detroit asked for him. But I agree with Yzerman's decision. I think Bertuzzi can improve his value even more, in the next 2 years.

Obviously they tried to offer him more term. But he probably deny it, cause he knows he can earn more money after this contract. The contract for Detroit is good, but for Bertuzzi is way better, if he reaches his upside.

The problem is Bertuzzi can walk in 2 seasons and I think he has less value in a trade with only a year or 2 left on his contract. The AAV is pretty good though.

I think it's a fair contract. I doubt Bertuzzi is in the long-term plans for the Red Wings so he'll be moved before it's up.

The term is absolutely a gut punch. Just makes it more of a when is Steve gonna trade this guy. Super disappointed this isn't a long term deal.

As many people have pointed out, he was injured for nearly all of last season and this contract takes him right to UFA. That said, if he can stay healthy and plays up to his potential, then this is a great deal. If the Wings are still terrible next year, they will be able to flip him at the trade deadline for a lot.

He will be a rental at the trade deadline next year, if the Wings are not in contention for a playoff spot.

His value will most likely increase near the TDL, especially if he puts up good numbers this season. I'd say it's highly probable that he's playing elsewhere long before this contract expires.

I love the AAV on this deal, but if they were gonna walk him to UFA then why not get a few more years on this deal? I'd be willing to pay the extra price if I were Yzerman.
