I think the fact Henrique was on waivers for free and no one took him, Anaheim has to retain 2 mill for 3 years or take back a bad contract. Byron is shorter than Henrique. It’s really not bad

None of them were really waivers quality, kinda like Tyler Johnson and Mathieu Perreault. They were just too expensive to get claimed and avoided cheaper players to be taken.

Agreed. My point is that people put entirely too much weight on the fact that Henrique cleared waivers this season. So did Nikita Gusev, Victor Mete, Sami Vatanen, Anton Stralman, and Jake Gardiner.

I think it is unwise to add Henrique since he is under contract for 3 years which covers the Suzuki and Caufield extensions.

At least Byron's contract expires when Caufield needs a deal, or is easily tradeable next year if MTL wants to free up space for Suzuki.

I am actually ok with going with the youth... Suzuki broke out in playoffs, KK can take a step and I believe in him if he gets a real chance at a top 6 role, Evans showed he is reliable defensively, and Poehling is a dark horse he showed some really good things in Laval last year.

Then there is Paquette and Vejdemo for injury depth.

All that said... I still have a gut feeling Bergevin is serious about trying to get Eichel. This also might cause long term cap problems but at least it is a star player.

Henrique is not a good target, imo. You could get a similar performance from a number of players for a fraction of the cost, outside of perhaps faceoffs.
I'd stay away.

His decline in offensive production was largely due to usage and overall team performances, they basically all stopped scoring. There are certainly better options out there but at a much steeper price. If they are not willing to give up significant assets in a Hertl, Dvorak or even Eichel trade, Henrique remain an interesting low-cost option.
