I still think the death of this team was signing Tavares to $11 mil. Great player, but he is not $11 mil good. If didn't have him you could have 2 players in your top six. Plus if he really wanted to be a Leaf he should've taken less. Don't count San Jose's $13 mil offer, cause they're crap when it comes to negotiating contracts (Karlsson, Jones and Vlasic looking at you). But this also is what happens when you don't lock up your guys the year prior to becoming an RFA. Cause the only good contracts on this team are Nylander, Rielly, Muzzin and Campbell. Brodie and Holl aren't too bad either.

This has nothing to do with contracts and everything to do with them not winning. Which has absolutely nothing to do with the roster. This roster was good enough to get to the finals and challenge Tampa.

If the leafs win, no one is complaining. Simple as that.

Why are wings fan s so disrespectful on this site? Don’t get it. Dermott is certainly not garbage.

To be fair the next question following your assessment is why are they not winning then? At which point we might just return to contracts and how this team is built.

The reasons are deeper than just the bad contracts, but it's the easiest thing to point out as it differs from other real contenders the most.

Tampa's contract properly adjusted to tax rates would look a lot like Marner's and Matthews'.

Like when Larry Murphy was shipped to Detroit for absolutely nothing because he was old and overpaid, just for him to win two cups in the next two years with them. Or when Bernier was cast away for nothing in return and immediately got better once he left the most negative and soul-destroying market for a goalie to play in. I really think Bernier could've progressed into an elite goaltender if he didn't have the insane pressure and reactionary hate that Toronto fans gave him. The worst things to be in Toronto are overpaid, a goalie, or a right-handed defenseman. With a fanbase so large, it's bound to happen, but when will they realize that being so reactionary and applying unnecessary pressure only ends up hurting the team?

That’s why I said it has nothing to do with the roster. They simply just need to win. The reason they haven’t won is different every season. None of those reasons is the amount of cap space. That is just an easy out. If we traded marner and added two players in the 5m range is Toronto all of the sudden guaranteed to win a round? Nope. Hockey is random and the parody is tight. Stars went to the finals then missed the playoffs with essentially the same team.

They need to find a way to win. It’s frustrating but that’s how it goes.

Same team only riddled with injuries. Seguin and Radulov were almost the whole year out, Bishop and Johns were both out completely. Our core, save Benn, Heiskanen and Klinger was sidelined. Had to get new guys to do the hard work and it worked surprisingly well with Hintz and JRob.

Now assuming these guys are healthy I'm expecting us to rebound big time.

Or not… you never can tell. Injuries happen. The leafs have had their fair share of that too. Not really so much about the stars as just how random things can be. Injuries included.

Only to leafs fans, cause they overate everything and think every single thing they soy will get them a cup. If they were more realistic we wouldn't have to be so angry towards your fan base in particular. We don't want demott and have no room for him on our team, so why would we give up a pick for him? Sick of seeing the same old trade that makes 0 sense from a wings perspective on repeat cause leafs fans don't understand the other side of the trade. Maybe if for once this wasn't a thing we wouldn't have to be so hostile. But just for you I'll just say wings pass doesn't make sense going forward so nobody has to have hurt feelings.

You just described every fan base on here. I’ve seen plenty of horrible Detroit agm’s as well.

yup, pass. No need for Dermott. Don’t think yzerman would have any interest. The same thing I do here on a regular basis. There are a ton of casual and new users on here. Not very inviting. I’ve been guilty of it too, mainly with other leafs fans.

Literally just after I typed this response this was the top agm on the list.
