Transactions
1.
COL
  1. Drouin, Jonathan
Détails additionnels:
Montreal move Drouin's problematic contract and save $2m in capspace.
MTL
  1. Compher, J.T.
Détails additionnels:
Avs add a playmaker who could potentially rebound in a new situation.
2.
COL
  1. DeBrusk, Jake (200 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Struggling winger coming off two down years, but who could have a resurgence on a new team.

Retention is to help the Avs stay under the cap ceiling when completing this deal.
BOS
  1. Jost, Tyson [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Jost might be redundant at 3C if Newhook takes that spot so he could be the logical trade chip here.

Bruins probably just want a pick. I don't see a need for Jost on their roster. Their current roster looks set.

I also think COL could snag a pick out of this. Drouin is a dump / negative value at this point. If Ghost costs a 2nd to dump, so should Drouin. If he can rebound anywhere though, it's here.

What level of pick would Bruins want for DeBrusk? Would a 3rd do it? Either that or I guess the Drouin trade could come with a pick that gets sent to Boston for DeBrusk.

MTL should be sending a 2nd back imo. then that 2nd flipped for Debrusk. I think debrusk is only worth a 3rd, but the bruins fans on this website are loud in disagreement.

I'm a fan of this, helps our middle six become a bit more complete.
2nd paired with drouin seems reasonable. Send that 2nd with a lower tier prospect for DeBrusk?

Montreal says yes. Very balanced deal.

IDK why COL would want to weaken their center line though.

I like the idea to take a chance on skill, but I would worry about having two guys who have been enigmatic offensively. This player would more-or-less replace Saad, who was pretty consistent. Maybe one or the other, I personally prefer Debrusk’s fit.

Lol it was just an idea. I don't like the Drouin part though. DeBrusk though seems like THE guy who Sakic will target, given that he:

- skates well
- plays a two way game
- relatively young
- has a manageable caphit
- is an RFA in a year, and
- is available

I don’t think trading the forward you expect to anchor your PK is a good move. Jost is finding his groove and I rightly think the Avs are expecting a lot from him. I agree with the comments above that right now Drouin has negative value, but that could change especially in a more relaxed environment and if he could be convinced to play just a modest amount of defense he could be an interesting add. I just can’t believe more Avs fans aren’t railing for another dman, because you are a single EJ injury away from having to play MacDer and MacDon as your 3rd pairing or forcing Barron into the line up before he is ready.

I was gutted when Hakanpaa went to Dallas at $1.5m. That would have been such a perfect signing for the Avs even before trading Timmins. I definitely see a hole at 3RHD that needs to be filled, but perhaps Sakic has more faith in McKeown and Barron than we think. Stylistically both are good fits for that role at least, being big, mobile, and having PK ability. Only Demers is on the market now in terms of RHD so either you go for the LHD like Murray or you just wait until the deadline to solve it. A risk, but maybe they can get away with it until then.

Drouin would be far from ideal, but, he does have a contract that ends in 2023 which is good. Get some asset and/or retention on him in exchange for Compher and the 2nd line does have more upside, if still being a little soft.

They can go LHD imo because I actually like Girard on the right more, he seems more engaged offensively and defensively you can re-pair him with Toews or Byram and let EJ anchor the 3rd pairing. I liked Hakanpaa too on the cheap, hell I would have liked Zadorov back on the cheap instead of MacDearmid.
