Description
I saw a rumour on a Rumour site that With the acquisition of Stone it likely makes a Dennis Wideman trade very likely. Would the Leafs possibly be interested especially with Carrick going down with an Injury last night.

In terms of some added leadership and a RH dman, I don't see why not. He isn't as good as he used to be that's for sure but he isn't the worst either. If the price was cheap he could be a small upgrade over a guy like Polak. Of course that is if T.O was actively attempting to try and make the playoffs this year which Im not convinced they are. Playoffs would be icing on the cake but this year is not worth adding pieces for a cup run on.

I'm pretty sure the Flames would make this deal. I think if the leafs offered a 5th rounder - they would take it. There is an almost 0% chance Wideman is a Flame next year (expiring contract), and he is currently 6th-8th on depth chart with a cap hit of >$5 million. I would be shocked if they didn't take this trade.

I think he would fit in with the Leafs top 4 and if he doesn't play well move Carrick back in and Wiedman can become a depth player for the remainder of the season. The Leafs are not worried about money they could pay all off Wiedmans 5 mill salary not just what's left this season and stI'll have 10mill in space. If I'm doing my math right Weidman is owed around 1.3 mill for the remainder of this season

The Flames would be laughing all the way to the bank with this deal. I'm a Flames fan and Treliving has been trying to trade Wideman for 2 season now. There isn't much of a market for #6/7 Dman making 5. 5 million. An offer of ANY draft pick would get him.

He's a UFA man so he was making 5.5 he is now only owed around 1.3 mill. Not much market for a 6 or 7 dman making 5.5mill but there is a market for a 6 or 7 RHD Making 1.3mill. Especially for a team with defence depth problems

How about Polak for Wideman PLUS a 3rd...and sit him in the press box. Offer Wisniewski a contract and get a better player for free.

I don't think the Leafs need a player like Wideman. Sure he's probably better than Carrick and Polak but the Leafs already have enough trouble getting calls to go their way with players like Kadri, and to a point, Komarov. Adding that bullseye to the roster would just make the situation with the refs so much worse. Let the Flames keep the problems.
