Great signing for Tampa to get Foote back on a cheap deal. I liked what I saw from him this season and he'll probably get even more time with the departure of David Savard.

With Foote on this cheap of a deal, they should have enough cap room to sign Colton with a little extra to spare. Tampa just keeps making great deals.

Why did people think he would get more than this? Like I think he's still got upside but he has proven nothing in the NHL. I saw people offersheeting him for 4 million. I don't get it

Well, you often have to overpay if you offer sheet otherwise why would the player leave his team

Teams should have offer sheeted him.
This over pay bs.... They could have probably landed him at 1.5 mil, and he's worth that.

And here I was saying "no way they get Foote (and Colton) for under a million" and offersheeting them for 2.1 each in AGM.

he's a young defenseman in a league in need of defensemen.
He's got 35 games under his belt. It's not like he played bad in them either.
You can say he's not worth that, but clearly you can look at teams like the penguins with a gapping hole at RD and he'd be at least better than what they have there right now.
As it is TB is looking for him to fill a role.
So why wouldn't other teams. It worth signing him to 1.5 or so, TB can't match or if they do it gives them more problems. It's not like this was a wait we'll sign you to a better extension deal. It wasn't.

He's been given paper soft minutes playing like 12 minutes a night. Every organization has countless d at his age with a handful of NHL games. He literally hasn't done anything in the NHL but people are ready to just assume he'll be better than everyone.

I see no reason to believe he'd be an upgrade on the Penguins right side. Remember Tampa had the option to play him more and chose to play Luke Schenn instead

QO's off elc are two way so this is a much better contract for him as qo would have only paid him like $100k in the AHL.

Foote isn't going to the AHL. Tampa doesn't have the cap space to sign an upgrade and only have Cernak ahead of him on the depth chart.

I suspect he doesn't have the same confidence as you as he got zero playoff games this year, and guys like Luke Schenn did who were signed for cheaper than him. That being said he is waiver's eligible so for that reason I suspect he won't go to the AHL. All that being said, I think capfriendly thinks he's some super prospect, and I think he's more in prove it or lose it year.

No comparison. Dermott is a proven NHLer who's played between 13 and 18 minutes in the NHL for a few years.

Foote has had one season mixed between AHL and NHL where he played pillow soft 12 minutes a night in the NHL.

His better comparison is Liljegren.

I mean I think he's proven more than Liljegren but I'd sign Liljegren to this contract if it was an option.

Liljegren has played 13 NHL games averaging 11:02 minutes and is a 22 year old first rounder from the 2017 NHL draft
Foote has played 35 NHL games averaging 12:53 and is a 22 year old first rounder from the 2017 NHL draft
Dermott has played 208 NHL games averaging 16 minutes and is a 24 year old 2015 2nd rounder

Foote and Lily were taken 3 picks apart. They are the comparables. Dermott is totally different.
