Then by that logic, why would Washington trade for him and let him walk for nothing? Trading Reilly and replacing him with Biega looks like the the Leafs are sellers before the season even starts.

please explain how the leafs were the only team that took a step back when

buffalo lost reinhart, eichel, risto, and ullmark
montreal lost danault, weber, tatar (laterally replaced by hoffman i guess) and price will likely miss time
tampa's bottom 6 imploded and they lost 4/6 guys that made up their depth

Washington already has a better version of Rielky, they dont need him. They also are already at the cap ceiling and cant afford him anyways

Toronto's also not selling him

Dont forget Boston just capped themselves out with 3rd pair dmen and no 2nd line center.
On the flip side though Florida looks to have massively improved

The last thing we need right now is to trade our top LHD prospect and our 2022 first round pick for one year of Reilly when we don’t have room for him on the depth chart or in the financial department.

Reilly the only difference makers the Leafs lost were Hyman and maybe Andersen. Gee, I think Mrazek can be as good Andersen. Yeah Hyman is hard to replace, but like all cap strapped teams the Leafs are hoping that some of bottom enders play above their contracts.
Looks likes it could be a really close playoff race for many teams. Then after that, who knows what will happen in the playoffs. For example can the 4th place Northern Division Habs expect to reach the Cup Final?

tampa is worse, boston is basically the same, florida got reinhart, leafs got mrazek and a mystery $3M winger likely

a wash basically, people acting like the leafs are gonna miss the playoffs is hyperbole imo. Losing hyman and replacing him with another $3Mish winger won't cause the leafs to go from a top 5 regular season team to missing the playoffs

now, what happens in the playoffs is a totally different story lol

Caps aren’t a team who need or can get Reilly
