It's a roster with a lot to prove. It'll be interesting to see if they take a step this year or are still a few seasons away

Hughes, Nico, Holtz, Mercer, Bratt, etc on offense
Dougie, Smith, Severson, Hughes on defense
And Blackwood in net
With so much cap space

I think it’s just a matter of the players getting older and more mature. This is one of the youngest rosters in the league. They have lots of talent on the team but not a lot of experience or veteran leadership, both of which go a long way in this league, especially in the playoffs.

Honestly, if the Wild and the Devils were to merge together, it would become an instant powerhouse. Both have some great pieces!

For sure, I think you guys definitely have more of the top tier talent as well, Minnesota has some of the best depth players in the league but lack the top tier talent outside Kaprizov and Fiala. You need both to win a cup.

Really all NJD would need from MN is Brodin and Kaprizov. Any more than that just puts NJD in cap hell long term.

Or they may never pan out ... sports are fickle. You can't predict or measure heart and chemistry.

They have guys like Sharangovich and Dougie Hamilton now, plus Luke Hughes coming in, Ty Smith broke out. Far more promising than the 2019 roster.

They could use Minnesota’s depth players like Foligno, Hartman, Sturm, and guys like that. NJ is really top heavy. They have a great top 6 but they don’t have great depth and you can’t win cups without great depth players.
