The biggest L here goes to Will Butcher

I've been seeing Will Butcher getting traded around on Capfriendly, and now this. His stats are reasonable, his cap is reasonable, so did I miss something?

Any player that Buffalo add to their roster is a win for them. I mean, ANY PLAYER.

PS: But it's undeniable that Butcher is the greatest LOSER of this trade.

Why lose him to Seattle for nothing when we can trade him to Buffalo for nothing?

People who don't watch my beloved New Jersey Devils....which is a vast vast majority of people....have no idea how terrible Butcher has been since his sophomore season. Maybe he's just not a good fit with our organization. Maybe he does still have tons and tons of potential. Maybe he will be a future All Star. But he has been downright bad for us. Very likeable guy, but a major liability on the ice. I hope this it the first step for him to get his career back on track. He wasn't going to see the ice again for the Devils.

Underrated imo. Buffalo got a massive steal. He’ll bounce back.

He's been on a downward spiral the last couple years. Not sure if he himself just hasn't been performing well or if it's just an affect of the Devils playing horribly.

He's a disaster in his own zone. I've watched every game he's payed since his 1st game. Nice offensive instinct. High Hockey IQ. No heart.

If he plays 1st PP he'll put up nice numbers. He's just such a major liability in his own zone.

One of the many terrible decisions Ray Shero made during his Devils tenure (and there were many), was extending Butcher at nearly $4M AAV after his sophomore season. Butcher makes Tyson Barrie look like a top shutdown D.
