Obtaining Danault and Edler are the last pieces we need to bridge until the rebuilding pieces are better. Blake just got the Kings a top-6 center from a Stanley cup final team, I don't love the contract but this team is substantially better than it was last year.

Hoping so, if all goes to plan I think Byfield will be flanked by Turcotte and Kaliyev as our second (eventual first line as Kopi moves down); Danault will be flanked by Vilardi and Andersson (eventually) as our shutdown third line.

funny part about your statement is that i see it happening, but Danault left Montreal because he felt like KK and Suzuki were going to take his minutes. Now it's even worse for him as he's getting a lot less minutes under a lot more younger guys

The irony isn't lost on us, but It's a bit different, I think the Kings really liked what the Canadiens did last season in the playoffs. If you can shut down teams who really are carried by their top-6 (Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary, Vegas: division rivals built this way) you can beat a team with your depth. With two Selke nominees on the top-6, you minimize high danger situations and make the game about who has the better bottom-6, which the Kings will bolster with their prospects. Eventually, Byfield will take that top-6 role but he won't get that role until he is better defensively than either Kopitar or Danault, allowing one to move to third line. Danaults contract will suck for the last two years, but remember Kopitars $10M is off the books then.
