Ryan Getzlaf a signé un contrat de 1 ans d'une valeur de 4 500 000 $ avec les Ducks d'Anaheim, le 28 juill. 2021. Le contrat comporte un cap hit de 3 000 000 $.
It's tough to vote for this one. There's so much involved here. One thing is a fact: Getzlaf cares more to stay where he belongs than to try to win another cup.
Puts the Ducks back over the cap floor and it's a sentimental deal more than anything. I suspect they'll ask if he wants them to retain 50% and send him to a contender by the deadline or if he's fine sticking around in Orange Country.
I don't know much about Getzlaf the person but I smell an organizational job after this contract.
And he's had his cup win early the career. Could still see him agreeing to a TDL cup run though. Moving for 2-4 months is different than a year
Totally can see that. He'll likely never leave Anaheim as I am sure the org will give him some kind of a FO job. But a few months to chase another cup, why not.
Your statement is accurate. But I'm still Im missing a good explanation why they would thhow that much money to a guy who should retire.
Let me flip the scenario a bit. Had he retired and been a player development consultant and they paid him 4.5 mil you likely wouldn't know, and wouldn't care even if you did know.
Now they're paying him similar to do the same thing (be a vet and help their young guys like Zegras develop and also be a 3/4 C.
The only real difference money wise is it effects the cap. But given they're nowhere near the cap, it is essentially a wash for them.
I agree that is seems a little odd and unnecessary, but I get the motivation and don't think it makes a significant difference otherwise. And if the owner is willing to pay Getzlaf that I kind of just shrug.

Your scenario is missing the part where they do NOT paid him $4.5M. Jeez how hard can it be.
