I can’t tell if this is sarcasm. I’ve seen worse Schmidt and Mayfield trades. What do you want? An extra pick or retention?

I am not that person, but we are not going to be trading our cheap defenseman for your expensive one... we need an additional D-man, so exchanging d-men makes no sense.. we would potentially trade picks and prospects for Schmidt.

Obviously late on this seeing as Schmidt got traded hours ago, but Mayfield is at 1.45 for 3 years, he is no where near an elite defenseman but given the value he brings at that term and money, it would take a significant ask to move him. Obviously Schmidt was a bit of a let down and maybe he just needs a change of scenery but the isles cant take that risk, given they have to resign all their RFAs next year. and while Schmidt would be on the team, Barzal Dobson, Wahlstrom, and any notable UFAs.

and disclaimer: i really dont like mayfield that much there are times i want them to dump him after some games, but objectively given his contract, he's one of their most valuable players.
