The Hawks have like 15 million in cap space right now, they’re not going to pay someone to take a cap dump.

There was at least a reason behind the moves they made. There’s no reason for this move. It just doesn’t make sense.

      Explain Jones, and Suter

Jones gets them a #1 Dman. The trade was an overpay, but they still filled a need. Suter was arbitration eligible if he was qualified. Arbiters look a lot at points when awarding contracts, and Suter spent most of last year centering Kane and Debrincat, which he probably won’t be doing again soon. There’s a good chance his points were inflated and he’d be overpaid if he went to arbitration. The Hawks already have a lot of guys competing for those middle 6 spots, it doesn’t make any sense to overpay for a guy there.

Jones is their best Dman and Suter wanted more than the Hawks were willing to give. I don't blame Suter. He hasn't had a payday yet. Hawks were willing to move on.

I do see the value of dumping Connolly. This year isn't hard to have Connolly...it's next year. I don't think the hawks are in a position to be shedding picks, but I would be willing to send a prospect looking for more ice time.

What are you talking about? I already said I don’t like the trade, I obviously don’t like the contract, but from the Hawks perspective, there’s at least a reason for it. They wanted a #1 Dman, and they got it, even if the price sucks. They don’t need cap space right now.

You said it was overpay, nothing about liking or disliking it. And youll need cap if you want to compete in a few years, which a 30+ Jones will limit you on. All im saying lol

If I don’t want to pay that in a trade for Jones, logic dictates I probably don’t want to pay him 9.5 a year. Yeah, if we try to compete, we’ll need cap space in a few years. But we don’t now, and in a few years when we do, Connolly’s contract will be off the books. Your own logic is working against you lol.
