Description
More and more "insiders" keep talking about this trade and, well, it can work but I just don't know about the long term rammifications of a deal like this. My biggest concern is the medical procedure that Eichel wants to have done. To give up this set of assets for a player we won't really see at 100% till next season, I just don't know if the Flames are willing to make the move.

That said, the top-6 looks fantastic and it doesn't hurt us too much in the long term with respect to the needed extensions for Tkachuk and Gaudreau.

It was just the Sportsnet guys talking about it, Pat Steinberg throwing names out there (I pulled from the names he mentioned): https://www.sportsnet.ca/960/big-show/july-26-a-wild-weekend-in-the-nhl-flames-in-on-eichel/

They talked about it being rumoured the Flames have been in and out and may or may not have an offer on the table for the Sabre's to circle back too if they can't get their perfect deal.

Pretty much thinking along the same lines. Also if we’re getting Eichel, I’d rather lose Zary than Pelletier I think. Pelletier is closer and an all-situations skill/2-way winger, we won’t need a skilled centre as much with Eichel/Lindholm for several years (and he’d also be more appealing as a trade asset). Similarly, I’d rather lose Dube than Valimaki, we can replace him on the wing with Pelletier, but it’s harder to immediately replace Valimaki, and Buffalo already has Power and Dahlin on the left side. I keep coming back to Monahan+Dube+Zary+2022 1st as the deal that makes the most sense, maybe with another asset thrown in (extra pick like a 3rd or B/C prospect like Zavgorodny or something).

Agreed, I think Buffalo would have more interest in Zary and Dube too. Dube provides them with a fast energy guy who's still young, a proven team leader, and plenty of team control still, Valimaki while also having that team control is pretty redundant with their most recent draft selection. Pelletier is probably not needed as much for them as a near NHL ready replacement center in Zary

Having Monahan included in the deal is my preferred situation as well.

Buffalo may have their perfect trade in mind but I don't know that there's a team out there with 4 futures prospects (1st rounders, high end prospects, or young players) to offer up and cap space to take on that contract. It kind of feels like Kevyn Adams is making this deal tough on principle; doesn't want to be the GM that traded Eichel in his first few months.

I think Stienberg was going this route cause there is no way in hell Mony waives to Buffalo!

Well, he was going that route because that's what the ask is from Buffalo.

Apparently they don't want a roster player with any kind of cap hit, only prospects and picks or promising young players.

I kind of feel like this is Adams trying to flex but I'm only working with what I hear.
