Retention doesn't really mean anything for Ottawa. Certainly wouldn't over add to get it in a strome deal.

That's still, for me, low for Reinhart. If I was the Rangers, I'd do that in a heartbeat. I'm really glad the Panthers got Sam and that they got him for so cheap.

Wasn't speaking to the specifics of the trade, but more generally that I don't see adding more for retention being a very worthwhile endeavor. No need to get defensive.

Also if "Melnyk lul" is all you can come up with, you should try harder lol. Also if it was actually that big of a concern for the organization at this stage they probably wouldn't trade for him in the first place, because he's owed 5mil on a 4.5mil cap hit.

I dont agree with your thought process here, and I dont think there is any team that wouldnt pay a bit more in assets in a flat cap world for the Rangers to retain 50% of hit and salary on Strome, if they are trading for him in the first place, outside of maybe Seattle.
