Agree for Schmidt, but he is making almost 6M …
If you move Holtby, you go Demko and ?
Every time I give Hugues less than 6.5M Vancouver fans comes to me crying he’s their best dman and will get 7M+ but they don’t know what a bridge deal is … so I thought they won’t complain if I go in the middle
Ignore the majority of VAN fans on here because they are clueless. Hughes had an absolutely brutal year. He won't make more than Heiskanen yet on a full contract, but because of his bad year it's likely he gets a bridge. That bridge, similar to McAvoy / Werenski will hug 5m and maybe come close to 5.9m x3. Although initial reports assumed a long deal, this OEL trade makes that very unlikely.
Again, ultimately it's not a popularity contest. I could care less what people pretend to know, I'm not letting a few whiney fans on the internet change my mind unless the sources behind their actions are valid. People are ultimately going to complain no matter what they do, so at least go the route of realism rather than conforming to a few novice fans.
Schmidt's cap is fine so long as he bounces back with the rest of the team. Schmidt got significantly better as the season went and struggled immensely under the segregation and the lack of practices through the season. I think his request out might have to do with coaching or team chemistry, which naturally would improve once he actually can be around the team. I won't pretend to know the situation, but everything he has indicated struggling with the most is repairable with the more normal season next year.
Moving holtby would mean a backup being signed/traded for. Those can be had for under 2.5m, still a savings on Holtby.
