My issue with putting the eggs in the Bedard / Michkov basket is with Power, Quinn, and JJP all coming up in 2022-23 and a pretty large amount of cap I don't think it's likely we will be bad enough to have a strong chance at either

It’s not necessarily about whether the Sabres are bad enough to get those picks, it’s whether someone we trade with now is. Just imagine the Sabres win the lottery again next year, Owen Power joins us the next season, then one of the teams whose first round picks we own wins the lottery the following year. Everyone complains, but it doesn’t count against buffalo’s allotment of lottery wins because it technically wasn’t Buffalo’s pick.

I think devils say yes. not sure if they are looking to make this kind of move though. While fiala is a pretty clear but moderate improvement over bratt, i think they would probably be looking to give up part of their war chest of futures before letting a top 6 roster player go. It would probably be the move for the sabres too. If this trade does go through it means you just jettisoned your two best players. IDK how much harder you can lean into tanking without throwing a parade or something.

There really isn't any chance Minnesota says yes to this. Remove Calen addison, and then it's a maybe.
