While the compensation looks like a lot this is the going rate for cap dump trades. (Examples: Marleau for a 1st with only a year left, Ladd for two 2nd round picks and a potential 3rd round pick, Ladd has two years left at 5.5M, Johnson’s 3yrs at 5M per cap hit is definitely overpriced but he’s a more serviceable player than Ladd or Marleau were

The trade for girgensons seems reasonable, but I don't think Colorado does it because they will struggle to fit him in the cap without shedding other contracts. You could probably get that trade somewhere though.
