I doubt Sakic would do that

Value wise the comparable would be Gostisbehere which was a 2nd + 7th, Avs arent paying a 1st on top of that for an extra 1.5M per year

COL on no planet does that trade. Trading with JB is one thing trading with Sakic is another.

Idk its somewhere in between imo. I would compare it to the ladd trade.

Armstrong said he wanted ladd to play. Plus ej has an nmc and ladd has a 16 team no trade. And johnson played 4 games last year so idk.

Even before 20-21 Ladd was mostly an AHLer. EJ missed time because of injury but when healthy is still a useful NHLer, I think that sets him apart from Ladd for sure. Gostisbehere imo is the best comparable for him in terms of a cap dump trade based on position and player quality

True, but if Sakic decided he had no choice but to move a big contract I'm sure Erik would understand.

I disagree. I think ghosts deal was based on a potential bounceback, ej isnt going to get better. I agree ladd shouldnt play in the nhl but thats what armstrong said thats not from me. A role player @5.5-6 million for 2 years with big injury questions. They actually sound kind of similar. Plus ej cant be sent down if wanted.

I just think there's too big of a gap in terms of the quality of player between EJ and Ladd to use that as a comparable. In terms of dollar amount sure, but Ladd isn't NHL quality even if ARZ plans on using him in the NHL, while EJ is. Not sure why they would want to send EJ down anyway. But at the end of the day the difference between the Ladd and Gostisbehere dumps is pretty much just an extra 2nd. Even if you split the difference that's probably around a 2nd + 3rd, maybe add another pick conditional on playing vs retiring like the Ladd deal (but in EJs case I doubt the pick would be transferred).

I just dont think a 1st would be involved like in this posts proposal

If avs were that desperate for cap space they would buy out ej for the 4m in cap relief

Moving all that draft capital for an additional 2m in savings isn’t worth it

Plus ej doesn’t have negative value. He had a concussion, his injury isn’t career threatening that he can’t ever play again like it’s dead money

Dead money and negative value are 2 different things. Dead money? No. Negative value? Certainly.

Oh, I think Johnson understands, it's just that Sakic understands that players have NMC and NTC for a reason, and that is the player doesn't want to traded to bottom feeders that have cap. Sorry Johnson stays in Colorado.
Just like in Tampa....so many NMCs, NTCs and MNTCs. Those players don't have any reason to make it "easy" for Tampa to manage their cap.

Duncan Keith was moved for Assets, OEL was moved for Assets. EJ if healthy will be moved for assets. He is still a good player

OEL was in no way moved for assets, the picks going to Arizona are to counteract the 12 million in cap they took on from Vancouver, plus the fact that they got Garland to sweeten the deal. OEL may still be a net positive player on the ice, but he’s a negative value asset.

Good point keith is a great example. But ej doesnt have positive value, its just 3/4 of cf users would be better than holland.

You don’t think getting guys who will be flippable at the deadline is assets, they didn’t have to pay to get rid of him, I. The end they will get a bunch of mid draft picks for roussell and beagle at the deadline bc teams love trading 3rd and 4th for him

I mean, as a Red Wings fan I think DeKeyser could get a late round pick back if half of his cap hit ($5mil) is retained, but I wouldn’t call him a positive asset if cap would need to be retained to move him. Signing a marginal NHL player in free agency on a cheap 1 year deal would likely get better value at the deadline, and that’s easier and cheaper. Plus, I don’t see much value in Beagle or Roussel even if cap gets retained, they combined for only 9 points in 65 games last season and they’ve been steadily declining. The only one I could see getting moved for anything in return at this point would be Beagle, for a team that wants his faceoffs on the fourth line.
