For an owner that has been strongly rumored to be ummmm...tight...with his money, I have a hard time believing any Canes GM would get the approval required to trade potentially very great ELC deals (in Jarvis, Suzuki, etc.) for big time players that are coming in hot and heavy with big-time contracts. Plus, Laine is in no way deserving of even his $7.5m qualifying offer.

It's bullsh*t. He's not tight, he's spent to the cap every year prior to this, there's no reason not do to it again, especially with the Canes being one of the teams who can open the building fully. It was a move that shows the team didn't trust a 40 game sample size. If you look at it like that, it makes logical sense.

To the actual ACGM, if you take out what you overpaid for Laine and add it to the underpay for Eichel, you might have a good thing going here.

I applaud the thought here but not a fan of completely going all in and throwing the future away. Would be fine with one of those moves but not both - don’t think we can afford to lose Jarvis Suzuki and our next few first and second rounders.

I also think you can get a better fitting too 6 guy in FA for less and without losing assets with a guy like Saad.
