EJ is not going to waive in order to be traded, especially not to go to Anaheim and definitely not Edmonton. Everyone is going to have to live with the fact that he and his money will be on the books for this season and next. Can't see Saad signing for that amount but maybe - the FA market is so tough to gauge right now but it does appear overpayment is coming back into fashion.

I agree EJ probably doesn't have Edmonton on his list of teams he'd accept a trade to. But Anaheim makes a lot of sense for him given that he lives in Newport (very near Anaheim) and breeds race horses there. He's also an avid golfer. I'm sure Anaheim would be one of his top destinations if he were to get traded.

Btw, LeBrun said in his article yesterday that the Avs were disappointed that Oleksiak signed in Seattle as they were planning to go after him in UFA. Which suggests that Sakic has some plans on opening some extra capspace as there's no way he could fit another $4m Dman onto the roster right now.

Even if EJ would waive for Anaheim for reasons mentioned above by Richard, what is Anaheim's motivation to he him on the roster for even 4m X 2.? Besides if EJ wants to win a Cup in his final two years, the Avs seem to be his best choice.

Still don't see him waiving to go play on a rebuilding team just so he can be near his ponies - he'll have plenty of time for that in retirement.

I'm skeptical of Joe messing around in UFA - it's just not his style as the prices are high.

I don't get why everyone wants to get rid of EJ so badly. Yeah 6 mill might be a little over payment but when he's healthy he is solid back there. He also brings some grit to a very young D line that doesn't put any punishment on forwards in our zone. If we learned anything from playoffs its that we are a little soft when it comes to that.

      "When he's healthy"......

Unfortunately the guy has only played 4 games in the last year. And he wasn't a picture of health before that either. He's missed like 25-30% of hockey the last few years even before you account for last year.

Sakic said in todays presser though that he expects EJ to be healthy at the start of the season so it seems that he's counting on him for this season at least.
