If Sakic wants to resign both Landeskog and Grubauer he'll have to get creative in filling the last forward spot with only ~$2.5m to play with. Targeting forwards with <$5m caphits at 50% retention seems like a prudent move.

Rakell has an extremely good contract even before retention and would be the guy I'd look at first. If not him then maybe Jenner ($3.75m x1) could be a decent fit, with the aim of also acquiring a top 6 scorer at the deadline.

Yeah, might be a bit pricey. That retention is so valuable though, you'd probably need to pay a 1st + decent prospect for any deal for Rakell at 50%.

@Xqb15a It would be a bit of a missed opportunity to not have done this trade last year to get Rakell for 2 runs. But maybe the price isn't 1st + Helleson. Maybe something like 1st + Ambrosio/Kovalenko/Bowers would work instead.

Whatever the case I think something has to give with our collection of RHD prospects. One of them is perfect trade bait to get a trade done.

Of course Rakell looked worse. He had only the putrifying husk of Getzlaf to feed him passes. Put Rakell on our top line or 2nd line and he'd produce again for sure.
