So the Avs give up 2 players that are better than the current corpse of Kessel? Doubt it

Kessel can still play and, in the right role, would help more than someone like Compher.

Yotes want to move out salary so, while they may retain for the one year, can't see them taking on JTC for two more years. May have to give them the 2nd they got in the Graves trade and someone they don't seem interested in giving a shot in the form of Bowers.

Kessel hasn't been able to play for half a decade.

I would take JTC over him every day outside of being a cap dump

What metrics are you using for comparison? Kessel has scored 20+ goals 12 times, Compher has scored 20+ (checks notes) 0 times. Kessel is a sniper, especially on the PP, Compher generates almost nada. And while Compher has slightly better defensive metrics, it's important to remember that he is asked to play a defensive role and doesn't do it that well. Kessel wouldn't be asked to do that and you wouldn't be getting him for his defense anyhow. Kessel is what he is but saying he hasn't played well in 5 years is flat out wrong.

    Nothing as fancy as 'goals'

Honestly thinking Kessel is a fit for the Avs in any way is SOOOO awful there isn't even a point discussing it, because there is absolutely no way anyone who understands the situation could seriously argue it. Kessel was spent before he even went to Arz

The same people who think Kessel is a good idea read the DP and MHH lol

I was making this to see what a kessel trade might look like and still have the cap work. The more I think about it though, the rumour of the avs being interested in kessel would probably be more as a back up plan if landy doesn't re-sign. Then the avs trade for kessel with a draft pick and someone like kaut. They also re-sign saad. I would rather they re-sign Landy, but if the price is too high maybe this is the backup plan?

"Kessel hasn't been able to play for half a decade"

325 points in 372 games over the last 5 years says different

He would be good for depth scoring for sure, i donno how a line of him and kadri would look though because i doubt we play him with mack. I think kaut is going to be in a top 9 role this year and i think a line of him nichuskin and jost will work good for 3rd line. I don't like moving kaut in the trade but swap him for a pick and i'd be fine with it

Yeah fair enough, I have kind of lost confidence in kaut, but I will admit I am not basing that off of a lot of evidence, so hopefully I'm wrong. If the avs can get kessel for a 2nd round pick and a lower prospect than kaut, as well as have Arizona retain half his remaining salary, I think that would be a good trade personally.

Think about the player in question, kessel is a one way scoring player. That's how you judge a player who is paid to score, by how much they're scoring.

I think getting them to retain would be simple. All his money this year is in the signing bonus then his salary is 1 mil. If some scoring is needed heading into playoffs i think kessel will become a hot commodity at deadline

I think there are a handful of players who do a good job of separating people who really know the players well and those who just pull up their box numbers. Kessel is one of the absolute best.

If what you said is true the Avs should go out and give Tyson Barrie 9x7 this offseason

You're being disingenuous and hyperbolic. Nobody is suggesting the Avs give up a lot to acquire Kessel or sign him to a new deal. If the Yotes pick up half his salary for the one year remaining and the Avs don't give up anything significant to get him, it's worth the risk. He was never a good defensive player and you wouldn't be asking him to do that. You'd be asking him to do what he does best: put up points.

I'm certainly not being disingenuous but hyperbolic is fair.

If Kessel was at league minimum and free he still shouldn't be on Col. There is no spot he fits and is only talked about on here because the image people have of him on his reputation hasn't caught up to the reality

Look, if the Avs are going to have to replace the production of Saad and/or Donny and even possibly Landy, they've got to bring in guys that can score at a decent rate, not projects or rookies with "promise." It's fine if you don't like the guy but he does produce and at $3.4M for one year, it's not terrible. And 325 points in 372 isn't just "reputation" it is reality. Are there better options available at the same price? Possibly but it is a real option.

Usually good teams go out and target good players. There are a lot of dumb as hell teams that try and get empty calorie scorers and it always works out the same. Might as well get Hoffman and AA too just for the hell of it.

Avs trading for Kessel is on the same level as the people on here who think they are trading for Price

Sadly Col is a well run org so the dream of seeing trash cans in the Avs uniform is likely only realized on this website and for click bait nobody reporters

Guess we'll see but the Avs stand to lose 3 productive players off their top 9 and Joe doesn't mess around in FA.

They'll sign a few UFA's now that the flat cap has made them cap positive on some cases. Their analytics and pro scouts would quit if they moved for hotdog lol
