Some people in this thread really incapable of understanding that the Leafs only lost a meh prospect and a throw away pick to essentially lose nobody to Seattle. Leafs are the only team (other than Vegas) to leave the expansion draft with the same roster they had at the end of last season.
You mean the same roster that lost again in the first round? And the penguins were losing McCann to seattle for free, but instead they got a prospect in a pick. Look at it from both sides and not just the leafs

Prospect and a pick to lose two roster players.
Kerfoot did well in the playoffs and there aren't many viable options to replace Holl. I can understand not agreeing with the optics of this trade for Toronto but it does make sense.

If Pittsburgh was worried about losing 2 players, they wouldn’t have made the trade. They wanted cap space, and they got it.

Irrelevant point to make. From an asset management viewpoint, Dubas did his job. Can’t say the same for the Pens who leave the draft missing McCann and Tanev.

Pens wanted cap space, and they got it. Lmao not a hard concept to understand
And the Leafs wanted extra insurance for their existing roster against the expansion draft, and they got it.
And I’m not denying it. How’s come leaf fans are allowed to say that, but when I say Pittsburgh wanted cap space, it’s all of a sudden “an irrelevant point to make”

McCann (2.9) and Tanev (3.5) are both pretty cheap middle six guys. You aren't going to be finding lots in FA for much cheaper. But hey at least you're still paying Zucker 5.5 and Pettersson 4 million lol.

Ya it sucks paying a top 4 dman and top 6 forward what they deserve. But hey have fun paying half the cap to 4 players lol
Leafs pay 7th + Hallander for McCann, who then is selected by Seattle. The Leafs roster is unchanged (because McCann never played a game for them). Good job by Dubas. It’s odd that Pittsburgh would trade Hallander and then reacquire him a year later.

You do you, but if your teams idea of "clearing cap" is letting two affordable middle six forwards go, then idk what to tell you. Leafs played the expansion draft perfectly. Pens blundered.

Lmao everyone kept calling tanev over paid since day 1 he signed that contact. Stop it. 3.5 mill for a guy on the 4th line is very hefty. Pens did not blunder

Gave up McCann on a cheap contract. You guys only had to lose one players and instead lost two. Leafs only lose Hallinder and a 7th in expansion. Dubas handled it much better than Burke.

They gave up McCann who did nothing in the playoffs and disappeared for long stretches in the season. They let a 4th line energy player making 3.5 go. I think pens management knows more about their team than you do lmao stay quiet

Exactly!!! I don't understand why people would rather have Hallender (who? In all serious has a ceiling of a 3c) over Kerfoot, who is a solid 3c already. Easy choice to keep Kerfoot.

All I’m saying is, I’d rather lose a meh prospect and a 7th, over two solid middle six wingers. Also I think Burke proved he doesn’t know much when he screwed Toronto.
