Seattle would just take Gourde for free, And Tampa would have teams calling to trade for Gourde....Tampa won't give Gourde away for free and most certainly won't pay Seattle to take him

He refused to waive last year, He'll refuse again this year if asked and next year is looking to promising for a waiver either. There was lots of chatter last year and the year he was gonna be a free agent. There is chatter because other teams are trying to get him and figure telling a stooge reporter their having Stamkos conversations might help. His contract is pretty much buyout proof so they can't even threaten him with that they'd save about 700k in cap space you can't even get a league minimum replacement for that..

Basic common sense? The Blues are not in a position to add that contract in exchange for a cheap blossoming talent that may soon match/approximate Stamkos production and a 1st, and certainly not when there are several other far cheaper (in both salary and acquisition cost) but quite good (and younger) options on the market. They are in a phase where they need to build the young talent base, not decimate it while ignoring other things they need to get done. On top of all that, from the Tampa side, Stamkos has a tendency to nix moves. So there's also that.
