Nope he’s average at best but it’s funny seeing fanbases say we’ll have to pay to get rid of Leddy and then Lou fleeces yzerman.

oh for sure, he destroyed yzerman here, I just think it's hilarious that people are fawning all over him for it with his recent track record of moves like it's the norm

Lou got a 2nd round pick for a cap dump 💯

Absoultely. Lou won the GM of the Year award for a reason. He deserves credit for fleecing Yzerman on this one.

I could be wrong here, but after long enough of this site’s consensus being pretty wrong, I’m starting to question if cap dumps are ACTUALLY that expensive

only reason i think that, is because if it only costed 2 2s or something like that i think ladd wouldve already been traded.

Lou’s best trade as isles GM.

Just wondering is it because the Isles got a 2nd round pick, I don't know anything about Panik

True, though the cost of unloading an albatross will decrease as each year of the contract passes. With only two years left, I think the cost isn’t what it used to be.

the title of the post was more so directed at people saying Leddy had negative value. i thought theyd get a 4 from him because hes still good, but they obviously had to move him.

since lou's been hired i have no idea how theyve been good because a lot of his moves have been head scratchers.

Komarov, 2nd for greene, greene bonuses, toews trade, etc.

Lou traded a 3rd pairing caliber D for a 2nd rd picks and a 3rd liner on a fair contract.

I love it when the “gimme your entire farm to do business with us” crowd is wrong. I LIVE for it.

Oh, if we get him on LTIR, then we pocket the 2nd we just got and this trade is even more of a win.

Any chance Leddy is traded immediately after the expansion draft? Essentially another team buying a protected slot from Detroit? If Stevie flips Leddy for a 1st next week, he’s playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

Or maybe there’s a handshake agreement with Lou to send Leddy back to NYI at the deadline in exchange for a 2022 2nd?

Or maybe since Leddy would’ve led DET defenseman in scoring last season, he fills a need on LD while providing PP usefulness and a solid veteran pairing for Seider, before recouping that 2nd at next deadline.

Also, the 2nd that followed Panik from Washington for DET to take him basically follows him to NYI.

Or you could look at it as NYR paid DET a 2nd for a useful year of Marc Staal which they then flipped for a useful year of Nick Leddy.

NYI gets cap space and expansion draft relief while Detroit gets a player more useful to them than a bottom six/replacement level forward and a player it likely feels can be traded at next deadline to recoup the draft assets.

It’s a WIN/WIN for both teams.

Quit pretending Yzerman got fleeced.

If Detroit retains 50% on Leddy at the TDL, they could get a 1st out of him. Puck moving defenders are often sought after at the TDL. Especially ones with Leddy’s playoff experience.

It’s definitely WIN/WIN. But hey, that’s why Isles fans are happy. They won.

I'm surprised Yzerman gave up a 2nd here, he must value Leddy's leadership more than we do. Depending on how Leddy plays, what he accomplishes, and if he fetches anything at the deadline, we may have a mutually beneficial trade here.
What would be painfully hilarious is if the 2nd is one of the assets Lou uses to dump Ladd on the Wings. Talk about full circle.
