This is much more realistic than what I've recently seen. I do think Boqvist will be a tremendous Dman, but you need to give to get.

I prefer Jones over Dougie. But not all do. So Dougie is an option without giving up assets.
i completely understand not giving anything for Jones too. Just waiting a year and Jones, Lindholm, Rielly, Nurse, Pullock, Klinger, etc... will all be "available".

I know we've got a problem with a top line centre, but getting Reinhart and Danault is overkill for me we've never been the sought of team to offer out "big contracts", plus whilst Danault's faceoff/defensive play was stellar in there finals run his points production doesn't justify paying him $6.5m. I also don't see Laine or us handcuffing ourselves to a long term deal, it will be a bridge/short term deal for him with laine betting on himself again with a more moveable contract if things goes south.

This is pretty realistic and is a good team but I don’t think they’ll actually spend for Danault and I personally hope they don’t trade Nyquist.

Danault, although his offensive game is limited, his defensive center skills should not be underestimated. Laine needs a center that can cover his defensive shortcomings. He is a perfect fit for our 2nd line center spot.

You are not looking at the bigger picture. The Jackets should and will demand a big price for him. There are no options that are as cheap (cap wise) on the market. If Bowman is trying to win with Toews and Kane, he needs cap flexibility to add pieces to help now. Sometimes that requires sacrificing some futures.

Everyone keeps talking about getting him in free agency…well doing that gets you into a bidding war and cost more of that cap space that is highly valued.

I mean I would rather go after Hamilton. Not saying it’s an unfair trade proposal but it would also have to include a contract extension (at a reasonable AAV) cuz a one year rental is not worth that

I completely agree just can't see Jarmo forking out on two top line centre's from how we know he operates it would be one or the other (Reinhart for me due to age), although I would have no issue being wrong here though.

I don't see how specifically Jones vs one of Hamilton, Lindholm, Pullock, Klinger, Nurse, Rielly would change the window for Toews/Kane. You mentioned bidding war and cap space...ok. would $2M in cap space be equal to Boqvist, Boegstrom, and (2) 2nds? I'm really thinking the Hawks should say no if that's all the difference is.

From a Sabres perspective, I think they can get a better deal from another team, but this is a relatively fair exchange. Hopefully we can get a higher pick, a better prospect and a better goalie from another team. We will see soon.

I was referring to the idea of signing Dougie Hamilton. His cap hit is likely going to be in the 8 to 9 mil range if not more. In this case, the difference works out to around 6 mil. That is a significant amount of space and would allow for more moves to be made if needed.

Let's pretend Dougie signs for $9M. I think thats high, but he's gone for the money before...so who knows. There's now way Jones is going to extend for $3M a year. So $6M delta isn't going to happen. If Jones signs for $7M....then it's a $2M delta per year and not worth it. That's what I was attempting to say.

I was referring to this year only. But the point still remains that Jones would likely be cheaper than Hamilton. He is also a year younger. That factors in too. Giving up a few assets to avoid a costly bidding wars is exactly how you navigate the flat cap. Think of it this way, if the Jackets don’t get what they feel is fair value, they could just hold on to him until the TDL. Then Jarmo could artificially increase the bidding war as up to 16 teams would be able to join in. And considering the loophole in salary retention, almost any team could afford it. In other words, if Chicago truly wants to get Jones they will have to offer true market value. Which makes my point about free agency and how that would not be in Chicago’s best interest

I agree that the TDL is when players get the most value. That is what Jarmo should do. Hope TOR isn't on his list and they're certainly send a haul for him for half the season. The Hawks might not even be bidders if they're not in the playoff hunt. Can't give away your future if your not a true honest cup contender without Jones.

P.S. by sending him to TOR...he's all but sure to be a UFA. Then the Hawks sign him even if it's for $1M more than anyone else.
