Why Bertuzzi wont be a Leaf

Description
The point of this isn't to say that their is a 0% chance that Bertuzzi is going to get traded, but more to explain why many of the AGMs showing a Bertuzzi trade involve pieces that don't interest the Red Wings.

Ilya Mikheyev
Nothing wrong with him would be fine for a contending team with a hole in the middle 6 wing, but Red Wings aren't that when they are we will likely have a deep pool of prospects and be able to get someone for that role relatively easy

Travis Dermott
Would fill our top 4 LD right away, however with how weak our Defense is I don't think we need to give up assets to fill that role and would rather someone with more experience to play opposite of Seider, Yandle was just bought out, we could bring him in to fill that role for nothing.

Alexander Kerfoot
Pretty much the same reason as Dermott, he fills a role that we don't have to pay to fill. Tyler Johnson would be a 2nd line center to start the season and then have Veleno take over that role as the year goes on

Now I signed Bertuzzi to what I think he would sign for and made a trade with the least I think he would cost the Leafs( alternatives included Rodin or Sandin). Other prospects I've seen included in mock trades I feel would get lost in the pipeline especially considering we have 7 picks in the first 3 rounds this year and had 4 in the first 2 rounds last year so it will take a top prospect to get Detroit interested.

So are the Leafs willing to pay this for Bertuzzi?

Not in the slightest. TOR will need all the cheap help they can get. That 2022 1st likely goes somewhere in a deadline deal this year.

There have been waaaaaaay too many Bertuzzi to TOR posts here. Most of which have been pretty ridiculous. It is far more likely a deal doesn't get done.

The media here loves to hype of the fans stating that everyone wants to come here, too many people buy into it.

You can get a lot more from TB if you're taking on Johnson.

That's more or less what I was getting at. Dubas said he would be interested in Bertuzzi if he was available. But I think this is what it would cost atm unless it comes out that they can't get a deal done and I don't think Leafs are willing to part with that price

I agree, just thrown in there cause mock trades I've seen have kerfoot involved for Bertuzzi, just showing that we could fill that role while gaining an asset instead of trading Bert

Congratulations on being the 1st Leafs fan that's made it onto the list of "leafs fans I can tolerate".

I'm not going to sit up on my high horse and think I have more of a level head in comparison to other Leaf fans. I have definitely had my irrational moments.

I think if a trade gets done that Toronto keeps Robertson, Sandin and amirov.
My ideal trade would look something like this
Liljegren, Abramov, Mikheyev and a first.
Yes I know you said mikheyev isn't part of the future, it's more of a way to make the money work for Toronto and to fill a hole in the middle six this year that bertuzzi would leave until prospects are ready.

I think it would make more sense to sign Bertuzzi for 4 years, and then trade him once the prospects are ready, or just keep him, he is only 26 if he slides down the depth chart in 2 years he'll probably be a 3rd liner when the guys above him are still on ELCs so his 4-4.5 cap hit won't be a big deal.
Also Abramov was another guy I wanted to mention, he plays center so he would have to compete with Larkin, Veleno, and Berggren, if one moves to the wing then his best case scenario would probably be 3rd line center

We really don't got much centre depth past those two guys which is why I included him, same with RD past Seider Lindstrom and Hronek, so that's why liljegren is in there. I wouldn't not trade for a guy like Abramov just because there are a couple players ahead of him on the depth chart. I also agree with being very happy to trade Bertuzzi.

If we're looking for depth in our prospects we can draft guys in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to do that, we have 8 picks in those rounds over the next 2 years already, don't need to give up one of our top assets to build that

A guy like abramov is still a few years away. I feel like if we trade Bertuzzi we need to get an elite prospect in return.
