Description
Don’t worry about the added draft picks in some of these selections, I’m more so focused on how this team can be competitive year 1. I’m happy with the forward core given what’s available. With Suter and Parise being bought out I imagine Talbot is the pick from Minnesota, and now this team has three good goalies that can all play in a 1A 1B situation. One probably gets traded, if Seattle feels they can compete for a playoff spot in a wide open pacific I feel it’s vanecek. The d’s I’m not so sure about. I don’t know how comfortable I feel with dunn playing right side but I think he’d be fine with Graves. The second pair seems solid and I think Miller works on the bottom pair with a young up and coming Jake Bean, whom Francis drafted in 2016. Overall I like this team a lot. I think they could push for a top 3 spot in the pacific if Duchene bounces back from his awful tenure in Nashville (hey, Nashville is where centres go to die). I’m happy with this top 6, and if things don’t go their way, they could probably trade killorn voracek drouin Henrique and eberle with retention. Luckily there are two very stacked draft classes coming up to help them out if things don’t end up going as planned. All in all, I think this team could make some noise year one with the talent they have.

I could see this happening, except for Graves (Johnson's waived his NMC, but I don't think the Kraken takes him) and I'm sure Tyler Johnson gets moved from the Bolts (with a lot of incentive). Good job!

Man the more I see of these the more you realize how god awful SEA is going to be if they only try and build through the ED.

The only way THIS team would be a win is if they ended up with 7-10 extra 1st rounders for it

They will have the option of Graves, Donskoi, JTC or a cheap player. All of them are reasonable and in the general sense Graves is a totally fine pick

Whats your LAK protection list? I thought they would protect Walker for sure

    My guess would be

    Kopitar
    Arvidsson
    Iafallo
    Kempe
    Athanasiou
    Moore
    Brown/Lizotte/Andersson

    Doughty
    Walker
    Roy

No way Blues expose Dunn. He’ll probably be moved at the draft or protected over Krug/Faulk

I agree this team doesnt look great, but we said the same thing about VGK. If they take some young players who were stuck behind veterans on their old team and put them into bigger roles theres always a chance that they could break out like Karlsson/Theodore/Schmidt/etc did in Vegas. But I guess in this scenario they kinda already filled the top 6 with older/established players so theres not much room for a guy to breakout. I think giving Dunn top pair minutes and PP1 could raise his stock quite a bit after being stuck behind Pietrangelo and Krug his whole career.

If the team is gonna be bad anyway they might as well go for younger players, try to hit some home runs and take cap dumps to get picks to reach the cap floor rather than taking guys like Henrique in the XD without much compensation

I'm sweating like a hooker in church over this one. We're going to lose some quality, but I don't want to lose Clague or Andersson. I think they should expose Brownie because last year was an aberration. That contract isn't worth it and sentiment hasn't helped us out. Athanasiou should be left exposed. If they could take Quick with a sweetner, I'd be all for it!
    I think they go:

Anze Kopitar, Viktor Arvidsson, Alex Iafallo, Adrian Kempe, Trevor Moore, Brendan Lemieux, Lias Andersson

Drew Doughty, Matt Roy, Sean Walker

    Cal Petersen

Most likely they take Lizotte or Wagner.

VGK created its core from trades, and BS luck.

To assume you could replicate that would be foolish, especially when there is an infinitely better options.

We will see if SEA is a smart team or a foolish one before the month is up

Oh, Graves is a great pick, but I think Colorado's protection list changed with the EJ move. I bet it's Donskoi.

Their list changed to protect Makar, G and Toews for the 3 D. Graves will still be exposed and if not then SEA is laughing to the bank

Adin Hill won't get through waivers, nor would he sign that contract. His QO is $960k.

Yeah I’m not sure what their plan for protection would be now. I always assumed Johnson would waive and they’d go 7-3-1. If they go 8-1 wouldn’t they lose a quality forward like Kadri or Burakovsky?

I dunno about that. There’s a lot of bounceback potential in the top 6. Drouin will be a 50 point guy outside of Montreal, Duchene I have faith will bounce back to his old self before Nashville. Voracek can be a 50-60 point guy, Henrique a 20 goal man, and Killorn is a consistent 40-50 point guy. I like the goaltending situation, only thing I’m worried about is the d’s.

Yeah I can see that being the most likely scenario being them taking low-risk high reward guys like Patrick and building up assets taking on a bad contract here and there. This was just my attempt at building a somewhat competitive team out of the ED.
