Vancouver straight declines the Chicago one

Vancouver also declines the Arizona one - Ownership will not entertain retained salary trades that involve Canuck contracts that have multiple years left

How do you know that is what ownership is telling JB? I have never heard that at all and I listen to Vancast and all the other Canuck related shows and podcast and that has never been mentioned
Last I heard JB say everything is on the on the table and used the word creative

It’s literally what they have been saying the podcast. All last year. Aqua will not pay for a player who’s is not on this team.
The idea of paying a salary to an employee who no longer works for you, for many years after he’s gone is a ludicrous one and personally I’d fire any GM who would suggest it to me

Hahahaha that is funny man.
Seriously though. Connelly is junk and has 2 years left on his deal at $3.5 per.
You are trading the 40th pick away to get rid of Holtby who can be bought out cheaply or retain salary in a trade that gets Vancouver a 7th and Eriksson who can be buried in the minors. Both 1 year deals for a cheaper version of Eriksson but for 2 years.
You are extending the problem and compounding by trading the 40th pick. A team that has no top tier prospects, a team that needs that 40th overall.

The time to add picks and sweeteners to these bums was last year.

It depends on what you are getting back, you can’t say that if it helps the Canucks get a good younger player at centre or RHD that is cost controlled like Jost, Foegele, Bean, Lauzon or by some chance Toews being available. It’s not smart hockey or business sense to say no to something before hearing or inquiring about a player because Schmidt’s contract is not going to be easy to move in a flat cap NHL.

Myers contract is difficult to move in a flat cap. Schmidt won’t be. There is market for him and despite failing in Vancouver he is career analytics dream. He was actually one of the better analytical players for the Canucks last year.

Vancouver can easily with no doubt get a 3rd back, same as they paid.
