Description
I believe it makes the most since for MTL to protect 8 skates instead of 7 forwards 3 dmen. That would have them protecting Gally, Anderson Toffoli KK, Edmundson, Petry, Weber, Chairot. and of course Price. This most likely means Allen would be selected by Seattle, this is a scenerio where instead of that he is deal prior (Bergevin did this last expansion draft and i wouldnt be surprised to see that again)
Habs could use another bigger winger that has the ability to score and contribute to all aspects of the game. I think that although theres a lot of trade options out there on player that fits that is Saad.
Habs could also use another body to bolster the back in, i expect we will continue to see Romanov grow but we cant expect to continue to play 4 dmen as heavilty as we did for the playoffs. I think Martinez is a cheap reliable option and is able to move the puck well which we need.

Armia, Danault and Perry are signed after the expansion draft

For sure, There would be roughly 11 mil available for 2022 to resign romanov, suzuki and probably evans but that depends on the young guys coming up. Chairot probably wouldnt fit with the cap but we have some more young dman close to making the jump hopefully one or two or ready by next season. I figure Romanov gets bridged probably 3 years 3 mil. Suzuki gets that first real contract in the 5-6 years 6-7 mil, or bridged for 3 years with the expectation of getting a 7 year deal after the bridge.

Imo no way Seattle passes up on Drouin if he is exposed and says he is playing. Drouin in the right situation can be a legit top line winger at a reasonable cap hit. In terms of actual upside he will have the most upside compared to anyone else exposed.

3 or 4 months ago i wouldve agreed, but he seemed to embrace his defensive role and it didnt take away from his overall icetime, always possible that he tries to test the open market but i wouldnt be surprised if hes resigned before free agency opens because i think he does want to be in mtl.

Why. Just leave weber unprotected and you get to protect 7 Forwards instead of just 4, and still keep the same 3 D ...

I respect your work. Nothing outrageous here.

But @royboy71 is right, you are going to have cap problems next year. Yes Romanov would sign around 3-4M and Suzuki 6-7M on bridge contracts, but you wouldn’t have nearly enough capspace. This could be avoided by giving 1 year term to Halak, Armia and Lehkonen. Stil, it would be very tight.

I'm a huge Saad fan. I would put him with Suzuki and Caufield.

Now, if I am the Kraken, I reject the Drouin trade, take Allen instead and use the capspace to sign Saad. Sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agree Armia probably not going to take a 1 year deal but i think Halak Lekcy maybe.

and Ya 100% Kraken would take Allen instead, thats why that trade has to happen before expansion draft.
