It’s far more likely the Habs could trade for Fiala instead of Kaprizov. I’m sure you could get Fiala for Kotkaniemi and some picks. Minnesota is looking for young centers and Kotkaniemi is one of the best.

By young I mean under 22. There aren’t many of them which makes Kotkaniemi one of the best. I said young considering he still has a few developmental years to reach full potential. The kids only 21, most 21 year old prospects haven’t even played a game in the NHL yet.

Since when has Kotkaniemi been the guy who probably won’t get there? He’s 21 and doing 10x better than 99% of all other 21 year old centers. Montreal are the ones that are losing hope in him because they expected a 19/20 year old kid to put up superstar numbers when that was never realistic. He also has played with 3rd line talent most his career which doesn’t help him at all.

Then why are they trading him? If they still think Kotkaniemi is one of the best young centers well on his way to reaching his potential, he's not available.
