Very unlikely Winnipeg gives up that much to move from 17 to 6 in the 2021 draft. The Jets would want a contributing roster player back for Copp to replace him, not futures.

Expansion draft would be a caveat. I actually think this would be a rather smart move from Winnipeg.
Able to protect Appleton and can stock the cupboard with another quality prospect.
And can save Copp's cap space to try and spend some money on the blueline.

Not for me. If the Jets move Copp they can get more than this and need to target a roster player that either replaces him or helps in another area. Using Copp to move up 11 spots in a crap shot draft and get a future makes the Jets worse now. Appleton can be replaced much easier than Copp, so that shouldn't be a consideration IMO.

I would do this trade, but for a different reason.

This trade could make signing Pionk way easier. Only he and Morrissey are Winnipeg's only proven defenseman. To lose Pionk would make the Jets defense worse.

This makes absolutely no sense for Detroit. They are in a rebuild. Yes they need help at C, but they don't want to trade down futures for him especially if they want Wallstedt a solid goalie prospect they desperately need. Copp doesn't make sense for Detroit as he's not within their timeframe hence why Mantha got traded and Bertuzzi is heavily rumoured to be traded and they are both a year younger. Sorry, but this is a big no from the Red Wings.
