ARI
  1. Eriksson, Loui
  2. Juolevi, Olli [Droits de RFA]
  3. Lind, Kole [Droits de RFA]
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2021 (VAN)
  5. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (VAN)
Détails additionnels:
The Canucks were linked to OEL last offseason, and there is no reason why they wouldn't revisit it this offseason. Benning should be persuing a LD (not much behind Hughes), and the UFA market is much thinner this season to fill that void. Does he go back to Edler? For a team in win now mode, I would say probably not.

The deal breaks down to moving Juolevi (the young D going back), Lind (the player Benning may not want to move) and a 2nd for OEL. To make long term cap work, Erikson goes as well, but that costs the Nucks a 1st.

Just see a top 4 of Hughs, OEL, Schmidt and Myers being formidable.
VAN
  1. Ekman-Larsson, Oliver
Détails additionnels:
From the Yotes side, this is about asset acquisition. Joulevi is still young, and looks to round out as a solid stay-at-home defender. Been a long road yes, but the game is there. Lind for me projects as a great 3rd line piece that has "some" top 6 potential. Yotes can easily take on Eriksson, and gain the 2 picks as part of the overall process.
2.
ARI
  1. Dermott, Travis [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Reality is Dermott is a high risk expansion selection. If Francis has to choose between Pitlick and Kerfoot, I really believe he goes Kerfoot - which for cap purposes just maybe the direction the Leafs would want Francis to go. Having said that, Dermott is still to high a riak not to use to pick up an asset that wouldn't go over Kerfoot. Pitlick fits.

Still Pitlick is an excellent 3rd line contributor with a 3rd line contract. May not be the best asset management for some, but Dermott isn't going to land a top 6 forward, nor will he get Crouse (the ideal Leafs target).
TOR
  1. Pitlick, Tyler
Détails additionnels:
Given what I see the Yotes leaving open, Pitlick is the most likely target - no offense to Kessel. And Lyubuskin is well, meh. Some may argue Francis goes Kessel, but I just don't see it.

What this deal does for the Yotes is gives them a player they can outright protect, with some top 4 upside if given a better opportunity than he will ever have in Toronto.
3.
ARI
  1. Lindblom, Oskar
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (PHI)
Détails additionnels:
The 2nd is conditional on Lindbolm's perfomance.

I figure the Flyers are going to go for broke before the aging part of this core ages out. Kessel as a 3rd RW? I think that's a big upgrade on what they have, and makes that 3rd line of theirs look awefully good. Where this may seems unlikely to some, inoving Lindbolm, the Flyers push Seattle towards taking Ghost - because I doubt they grab Kessel, even at a reduced salary.
PHI
  1. Kessel, Phil (3 400 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Yotes get a younger winger who is simply buried with the Flyers. The change in scenery may get Lindbolm back on track to those 40 point seasons. Increased icetime, maybe 50.

Sure, this is a but risky, but the conditional pick should make up for that. Reality is, I doubt Kessel would ever get a first, even at the deadline.
4.
ARI
  1. Johnson, Tyler
Détails additionnels:
This is more a move weaponizong cap space than anything else.

Johnson with his two Cups certainly brings something to the room, and short term can be a 2nd line RW.

Long term, Yotes should be able to eat part of Johnson's salary and upgrade on the 4th. Tampa will be in tough to shed the salary, so it maybe lowball (would move a 3rd).

Still a guy that out up 40 points in around, but that is pricey production at $5 million per.
TBL
  1. Choix de 4e ronde en 2021 (PIT)
Détails additionnels:
For Tampa, a flat out cap dump.
5.
ARI
SEA
  1. Lyubushkin, Ilya
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (PHI)

OEL is not good. He shouldn’t be worth any where near that much. he is on one of the worst contracts in the league as well

The leafs will just keep Dermott, if he goes to Seattle oh well. Same goes with kerfoot. Leafs would like to keep him but if they can’t… oh well.

8+ for a declining below average top 4 defenceman, i would much rather keep loui until his contract is up at the end of the year

Are you nuts? Vancouver runs from that deal. You are going to need to add if you are trying to find a sucker to take OELs contract

Is OEL's play more a function of what was a thin blueline in AZ? That's my debate. The guy wants out, so how invested is he? Kinda like Sam Bennett..... gets to FLA and boom.

Having said that, what's he worth then? Juelevi can play, but remains a project, Lind is a 3rd liner really. A 2nd isn't steep. What's missing. What needs to be deleted?

I like feedback, but blanket statements drive me nuts

The first is for Ericsson if you read my rationale.

When I was putting this together Dermott remained unsigned. Seems that the Leafs just may gamble.

However, I still see Dermott as a movable piece and Pitlick is a great 3rd line producer. I actually stand by the deal from the Leafs side of it.

Flyers decline

Which I said they may. Still, why would they decline? $3 million on the 4th line?

JVR-Laughton-Kessel as a 3rd unit is crazy good.

Now if the Flyers choose to regroup, then yeah, they don't touch this. But, if they are agressive as they generally are, well, I wonder.

Yet Benning is the King of bad contracts .... Roussel, Beagle, Ericsson, Holtby, and i might throw in Pearson.

I see OEL's play a function on the team as a whole. Arizona is a gong show plain and simple. He is still only 29, and wants out of AZ. So is it declining play or uninspired play?

Benning has been agressive in the past (see bad contracts) and short of going back to Edler, not sure there is much in the UFA market to fill the Canuck glarring hole in the 2nd pairing..... especially now that Schmidt and the team are apparently parting ways.

There is simply more value in this deal than just the contract.....

I’m trying to think if who they give up before Lindblom. He’s too young and valuable to give up for 1yr of an old Phil Kessel. If they move Jake/JVR, I could see the potential to bring in a scorer like Kessel, but not for OL

JVR would be a make sense addition in the sense on being signed. But since that gets Philly out of the contract, a young addon would be needed. That could be a Ratcliffe or O'Brien.....🤷‍♂️

Well we found a bigger dummy than Benning then. Congrats.
