I don’t see Landeskog leaving the Avs. He’s been the captain and he’s been through a lot with the team. He would probably like to stay with them as they become serious cup contenders.

Probably some angry Wings fans coming here soon, to me that looks like a good trade for Detroit.

You're probably not wrong. The first is pretty late in the round too.
I don't hate it as a wings fan Nino is just 1 year, and Gardiner is 2, but is at least at a position of need, though I don't think he fits the system too well.

I would hope for more, but wouldn't be mad.

I'm a wings fan, and maybe I'm out of the loop, but I'm surprised to see Nino considered a dump... What am I missing?

Edit: looks like Nino's production has been lackluster the last couple years. But, without getting too greedy, I don't hate it.

Detroit accepts, players useful.

How about adding Foegele?

Gardiner + Niederreiter + Foegele + 2021 1st for Big Brother Svechnikov + 2021 4th.

From what I understand, Foegele has asked to be traded.

Detroit accepts, Waddle isn't giving that much to Dougie Hamilton he's 100% gone. Landeskog gets more money and he's staying in Colorado.

Why not save the picks and not sign Martinook, McGinn, and Foegele? Keep Nino one the 3rd line and play Lorentz and Geekie? Or go get a 4th liner for much cheaper?

Nino had 20 goals in 56 games, pretty close to 30 in a full season, Detroit could probably flip him for a 2nd to a team desperate for wingers, the Oilers come to mind, he's not really a cap dump.

Yeah Gardiner has another year but he's probably traded in his final year for a mid to late pick, provides a LHD body for a couple seasons for the Wings.

Idk, this is decent for Detroit.

Nino had 20 goals in 56 games this season which is pretty solid, I don't think he can be considered a cap dump after this past year, the prior season sure but not after this one, the poster was probably just wanting to clear space for Landeskog in one trade, they could probably move just Nino somewhere for a pick.

I don’t think there will be much backlash.

Gardener fills a positional need, has short term, and is the type of ‘cap dump’ trade the Wings would make if they do not trade for Dunn or sign a D in the free agency. Nino is still a quality forward and can likely be flipped for picks at the TDL since his contract is expiring. Even with the late 1st and 3rd I’d still probably make this trade.

Edit - I do think you’ll get some unhappy CAR fans though!

That detroit trade holy hell. Moving Gardiner, I understand the logic, but you can just LTIR him. His back injuries are horrible, but he's useful when he's healthy.

Niederreiter was on pace for 35 goals over 82 games and you're trying to dump him? His value is at the highest it's been in a while.

Nino isnt a cap dump and you dont even need to move him. Martinook isnt coming back, replace him with an elc (drury). Foegele will also be traded so that opens up even more cap. With that space you can fit nino.

What's false about it? Last time they tried to sign a star player another GM had to do it because the owner didn't want to give signing bonuses. Good luck this time around

What is false about it, hmm lets see….
Has spent close to the cap all three years of his ownership
Spent a ton of unreported dollars to get the players the things that other teams have that Karmanos didn’t pay for
Soent 90 million dollars in real salary for the 19-20 season.

Sounds super cheap to me.
Your narrative about not signing Aho is grossly false but you believe what you want.

He also didn't want to play his commentary guy, waited to resign Brindmour because he didn't want to match what the open market was for that coach, cut costs in the food venues in stadium, has been very open about saying that NHL executives make to much and even had Elliott Friedman talking about it in his last 31 thoughts.

Also don't know what's false about the Show contract, ownership didn't want to pay him that much and didn't want to pay him in signing bonuses so he went to another team for the contract he wanted. Also made sure it was a contract that walked him into free agency.

Like I said, he is a cheap owner. Not Melnyk levels because he is actually rich and can afford it unlike Eugene but it's pretty well known around the league that he is cheap.

Tou grossly false but continue your narrative. It had zero to do with dollars or signing bonus but term. Clueless Montreal was duped into believing what you said is the case. I get it is a defense mechanism for you to keep from believing you got played.

The announcer has zero to do with cheapness. This whole take is so laughable im not going to respond anymore

I hate to be the one to point this out but the Avs would have to get past the second round first before they can even think about becoming cup contenders. They would need to make the most of Mackinnons current contract otherwise they will have to trade away other players so Mackinnon will get his raise.

What was it to do with then? Because the same problem is now being reported with Svechnikov. Turn your blind eye all you want but it's laughable that Carolina hasn't actually been able to sign any big money contracts since he became owner.

Always find it funny to that people think MTL got played. It was an easy win win for Montreal, either they got Aho for a great deal or they got to make sure that they didn't spend that money on an over paid FA. Was actually one of Bergevins best moves

Also, you're right! What an absolute genius move by Bergevin to limit himself so he doesn't give out any trash contracts! What brilliance!
